Sorry guys I think I've mislead you, that was a prediction not an actual report, I'm still putting the engine frame together! Now I feel I'm going to HAVE to make the first trip like that so I don't let you all down  :-[ ;D

Cheers for the link Seth, I'll look into it.

You tease!
Well the one thing your going to have to remember, is to video the first start up and run!

I can`t help but wonder if Peter might be worth chattting to about bullet proof gearboxes, considering he works for Quaife

It doesn't seem very kind, but I'm actually disappointed that didn't happen (yet)!  :D

Have a chat to these guys - http://bearsmotorsport.co.uk/volkswagen

They built a very nice gearbox for Austin's supercharged Buggy.
I know these guys, they do great work and only down the road from me too
I'm in my buggy,
It's raining,
I really don't care.

I didn't know that, I'll get in touch with him after my 21 second maiden voyage  ;D

A while back I made some rear lights for another project, I might use those lights on the buggy, as I will be using the cage they are on. Here is the write up from back then:

..."Before I continue, apologies for the poor pictures, I've used my phone for most of them. To start off with, I got a set of stainless spot lights:

Taking them apart left me with this part, the glass and metal backing plate, which is stuck together, and then clamped with metal.

I didn't need the metal backing plate, so it was chopped off. Making the first cut on a new set of spots that had arrived earlier that day was uncomfortable to say the least!

As I'd be using LED's, I needed a flat plate, so I drew up the size.

Then cut it out and polished it to a mirror finish

It didn't HAVE to be a mirror finish, as the LED's have very little (if any) light going backwards, it was more of an aesthetic choice.

I then used a very expensive piece of software (MS Paint) to draw up my design for the lights. The lighter red is the brake light, the darker red the side light and the amber is the indicator.

Then I made a template for the holes.

After transferring it across to my backing plate, I now had this:

All the LED's in and wired up

I'm not too happy with the wiring mess, for the second one I'll have to try and figure out some sort of a system:

Indicators are go!

Rear lights are go!

The difference in brightness is the camera angle, they're all equal.

Brake lights are go!

And finally, the whole lot assembled, next to the other spot light which needs doing.

The before and after!

I'm happy with it, took me a while to do them, I really wasn't figuring the soldering taking as long as it did.

And finally the cage with lights on:

I've not mocked the cage up to the buggy yet so have no idea if it'll work or not, but it does look a lot better in person that in the photo  :)

an impressive amount of work going into the bits. could you use something like the circuit board sheet to mount the LED's on and thus tidy the wiring.

Got back on Thursday after being away for 7 weeks, some progress:

Water temp gauge fitted:

New horn push fitted:

Took the engine out to take more measurements for the engine support cradle, then re-fit the engine, it's going to have to come out at least one more time. Perhaps next time I'll use a smaller engine  ;D

brilliant work on the lights Baz
pretty impressive work, and a lot, lot cheaper that buying them and being able to have you own pattern as well.

Spent yesterday tooling around at Stoke Bodyshop in Fenton, while I was there Chris sorted my exhaust system for me:

Exhaust mocked up on buggy:

Main engine support frame is in place, need to sort out radiator mounts, fuel supply and finish the exhaust and I'm almost done!   :)
