Hi , anybody know what headlights best fit in the manta ray headlamp recesses. I have some Bosch h4 's but the mounting rings are a bit shot , and don't seem to fit very well. Thanks

Have a lok at Hunter CTR buggy he has used modern small headlights.

5 3/4 inch Wipac type.

Be careful with some of the smaller projector / HID / LED type headlights though as to fit them correctly you also need headlight leveling and a wash wipe installed on order to comply -

MOT guys are clamping down on this one   

Projector lights are ok for fitting the HIDS suspect even fitted as an after market upgrade to modern cars.
LED Lights are new stupid money and quite possobly not legal if after market..

Worth a read of this sometime - its still all a grey area though, but this is about the most informative, and most up to date one I know of

Mine are projectors using H4 bulbs so no issues with the auto levelling and auto washing systems, they are also known as British/American fitment so no issues with MOT

H 

Its the H4 bulbs that make the difference there 

My note of caution is because most of the kits that look like yours no longer use conventional bulbs 

Wise words above and if they clamp down hard lights must be from year of registration or before.

Well I was totally motivated to change the headlights to alleviate the rubbing/burning rubber smell that was caused by the front nearside wheel hitting the underside of the headlight area when braking or right cornering with a passenger. I could have used smaller headlights - even tractor ones were helpfully suggested, see topic 'Small diameter headlights'. But I went for the Hunter Headlight option to maximise the new gap between wheel and body.

Getting rid of the extra headlights, which were rusty and intermittent anyway, has released the lovely curving front. I like your suggestion although I'll probably wait until I eventually get the whole body re-done and fill in the various holes from previous lights etc.

Thanks for the info all. Want to keep it looking as retro as pos , so don't want to go for the small projected type lights. I thought I had cracked it with a pair of chrome or stainless enclosed lights with a single bolt/ stud fitting but I think the stud would foul the front tyres, which is a problem others have encountered.  My try a 5.75 " enclosed and see if it works by shortening the mounting stud.

Side lights are visible above the wheel sort of, on the edge of the body work
