Guys this is not a NEWS thread, it's a bug jam one.

Back on topic

Personally for me in considering bug jam. Closer to home, more to do for myself and my teenage daughter (for her the idea of just camping in a field with nothing else to do is her idea of hell)

Also has an off road track and far more other things to wet your appetite than just the drag strip.

Didn`t realise they were running the off road track - in which case there will probably be some members from the muddy side there also (baja club) - try and say hi to them if you can as they too are a really good bunch

I prefer the smaller shows rather than the large corporate plastic ones  ??? As for drug jam not my thing ;-)up

I to love them BUT there are a lot of shows going on that the SDBC and its members are missing out on

I can`t speak for the SDBC`s attendance, but on a personal level, I`ve had enough of "drug Jam" and that type of promoter show. Years ago, VW Action was a real family show too, but nowadays its just another Mecca for Drugs, Alcohol and the rave and party scene. They do indeed put on a spectacular party, but its almost as though its more about the night time music event and  the cars are now secondary. Centred around a drag strip with 20 second cars isn`t exactly a crowd puller either, and lets not forget the facilities - I`m not so sure many of those loo`s flushed on a thursday, let alone saturday, and sunday you go home with your legs crossed. But that said, Go and enjoy it Aaron, fly the flag for all of us, and you may just find some Buggy enthusiasts to have a good time with. Me, I`m hoping to go to NEWS that weekend, a purely Buggy event, and then to Swanage the weekend after (again, Buggys). But being stuck down the other end of the country also, I do understand what you are saying about having to drive everywhere - but thats why NEWS was placed in the middle, to give everyone an equal chance to get there.

Ok, you want a Big show? Remember to put Stoneleigh 2014 in your diary, as I am hoping to get as many Buggys there as I can, to Europes largest Kit Car show - proper old skool event

Having never been to drug jam as you all call it I can't comment on the show
I would love to go to NEWS but people won't travel for an hour so there's no chance they will go
160miles 3hours and its a long way on your own I think the people that have set NEWS up have done a great job

I won't be flying the flag at bug jam as It was Embarrassing Enough in another county with the Excuse that it was to far for members so I won't be embarrassing myself or the club on our doorstep

I did write a long message but it timed out
But to be honest it's Probaly best it did

Aaron, it all depends what you want from a show - I have been doing the shows for nearly 25 years now, and I know the promoters quite well. Over that time, I have seen a lot of changes, and it is a far cry from the family VW shows that I remember of old. I like to see lots of cars, and mill around the campsite chatting with fellow enthusiasts whilst chilled out with a few beers.

If you are unfamiliar with Bug Jam, it is more of a music festival with some drag racing and a few good cars thrown in, but facilites are somewhat basic. If you have never been, then you ought to go to see what it is like. You will have a good time, it is a good event - but is it still a VW car show? Hmm, not so sure these days.

To be fair, its not just the distance that prevents us from going to the Continental shows, its the same for them coming over here to ours, and not that many venture over here nowadays, or at least not to the shows I have been to. That boat trip is just too bloody expensive now, if towing a trailer tent, I`m afraid that the £400 cost for the 26 mile crossing just isnt feasable these days - back in the day when the crossing were £25 a pop, we did them all the time - just cannot justify the extra expense now.

Yep, I hear you, but we have to do at least that whatever show we go to, but I don`t mind at all - I like driving my car. I thought that I may have travelled the furthest to NEWS last year, but Groove Champion almost doubled my journey distance coming from Scotland, and he didn`t even have a proper roof. Think of everyone that goes to Swanage, most have done well over 100 miles to get there

Anyway - this is going off topic -

Aaron, go to Bug Jam, take a camera and bring back lots of pictures and stories and most importantly

Have a good time  ;-)up

[/quote] £400 was that first class I slummed it in a tent and the return crossing was £44 bargain
All 41 cars was from the damage vw club all from the uk
I do understand the cost can be quite high

Will do mate

The main thing I'm getting at is as a club I think it needs a shake up
I was looking at a news letter from 2008 and the events are the same then as they are now
And as per the only news letter from this year
