I am looking for a couple of Steering Box mounting Bolts that Clamp the box to the front beam - part number is N0104481  and nobody seems to have any?
They seem to be a strange thread pitch and cannot find anything else that fits?




Also looking for the steering Box lower Flange clamp - this is the bit that goes on the end of the steering box shaft and below the rubber ring - I want an old fasioned bare metal one with good internal threads rather than a new one that for some reason all seem to have been chrome plated.




Anyone have anything kicking about please?   

Dave...   avoid the repro one... It is not fit for purpose....  The bolts..... these will be a 10.9 tensile standard metric shoulder bolt of either 1.5 or the finer 1.0 pitch. I have fitted a fair few over the years and never had cause to seek any other thread type. Make sure they are torqued correctly and as belt and braces use the specific  lock tab washers.

Assuming you mean the flange?  I actually want a real one as probably going to be sticking it in the lathe anyway to make an adaptor out of it

1.5 pitch doesn't want to fit which is what has thrown me a bit - definitely not finer though 

I`m guessing its an oddball size as many sites list them by part number, but all out of stock - if it were a normal type bolt then I would not have expected to be a problem getting them?

The bolts are generally M10 x 1.5 mm pitch x 48mm but I have one box in my collection that isn't, it looks a similar pitch but slightly smaller diameter.

I'd swear it's 3/8" unc but I haven't got a bolt to try in it. Possibly a pattern TRW box of US origin still using Imperial fasteners?

Edit: Yes, definitely 3/8 unc, damn Yankees!
So that'll make them 3/8 unc by about 1 3/4" long.

Well that was a surprise as I always thought Beetle stuff was Metric 
However, just pulled a 3/8 unc bolt from my Bike (US Import) and it fits a treat

I just looked in daylight and surprisingly it's a genuine VW box that has the unc threads, most odd 

The US derived (if not made) TRW box has regular M10 threads.

Just dug out an old knackered rusty but genuine VW box here, and that uses the same UNC bolts too

that makes sense though, as instead of listing a metric bolt size, everyone's websites just say out of stock -

seen some silly prices for them too using the VW part number, anything up to £6 each + shipping !!   

Now I know its a standard bolt, I can rummage around the garage for one - my old GMC used to drop them all over the yard, so one of them must fit 

Still hunting for that flange though

I found a flange if any good? When you say 'good internal threads' I'm not quite with you. They're smooth inside, the only splines are on the shaft, any that look splined have just picked up 'witness marks'.

Thanks for the spot Krug, but most of the aftermarket ones seem to be made from cheesium which is why I was after a genuine one.
