not sure if this is the right section to ask,
just reading a thread about stingers on a beetle.

what do you think the legalities are with my exhaust, apart from not seeing the reg plate which i will be moving anyways,
Tim who built it said it was the only advisory he had on the MOT,
but apart from that, the exhaust is sticky up and out, I dont want to really have any heat rap on it.
ideally, I would like a different design from Mike, but thats out of my reach for the near future, so im stuck with this one,
so do you think it would be a pull over and points ?
the top photo hasnt got the rear cage, this was taken by Tim before it was finished and fitted.

folks do run them and have no problems but that may just be down to luck.
you could cut the upright pipe  and get a downwards bend fitted to the side a fit the silencer.

I had one never a problem but they are sold as off road use only

the only problem I see with that is the bend starts from where the merge header ends,
at one time I would have liked to have had the spark arrestor sticking straight up, but as I say, theres no straight part on it ,
it would mean cutting off the pipe after the header and having a new piece welded on, so that would have to be the same option for your idea Snoop.

Im worried because as well as sticking up, it is also angled back, so as well as burning your hands etc on the pipe sticking up, you might also walk into it as it sticks out aswell 

You may not get hassle from the Plod or at MOT time but if someone's precious little prince or princess walked into it or touched it and burned themselves while you were parked I recon they'd have a cast iron case for sueing your arse off...God knows what it'd cost you!!!

its the case of its never going to get on the road then, I have more important things that need to come first,
its to the point of not even being able to have chad to come down to sort my wiring out (no Im not looking for a freeB here)
its been sat in the garage for a good few years, another few wont matter 
Not feeling sorry for myself here, just being realistic.

On ace run last year I had just parked up and some woman grabed hold of my exhaust befor I could say dont touch that  waited for the scream and loss of skin  but nothing when she moved I touched exhast and was just warm we was amazed how quick it had cooled but it could have been so different you would thing it obvious not to touch but not every one has the brains they were born with

I dont know..I have gone to grab the exhaust on both mine and my wifes daily a few times 

To be honest I am not sure that yours is any different to mine in that my merged system is all nicely tucked in under the rear cage but still in easy reach of sticky fingers.
When I park up I always get out as quick as I can and guard the back until it has cooled a bit, its such a bind getting burned skin off stainless 

To some extent that is one of the risks of having a buggy, whatever system you have the tubes coming off the rearmost cylinders will be extremely hot, the rest of the system a bit cooler but still hot enough to make your eyes water after a decent run.

I am curious what the MOT advisory on the exhaust actually referred to, the heat risk, sticking out, or noise?

not the exhaust as such as in a danger or anything dave, it just said it was hiding a clear view of the reg plate

Surely you can just put this on for the idiots?
