Thank you, that's a great help.  I have an aftermarket column with a couple of these bearings, but need another for a UJ section.  I didn't know what they were called to search for them!  Thanks.

Made up some temporary wiring today





And wired up the acewell speedo, starter motor, regulator and the engine

It's not running great, seems to be missing on no 4, but spark is good.  It's getting fuel... so needs a bit more investigation (compression tester was at home and wife was asleep)

It's not charging either, so need a new regulator, but it drives!!

Not charging it may just need the dynamo polarising as it has been stood around.

That will do it also after 2 years check the commutator is clean and the brushes are not stuck away from it.

 

Sorted the rough running.  We changed the inlet rubbers and gaskets and that seemed to sort it.

Adjusted the distributor but timing light has stopped working properly.

But it was running better and idling now, so Tom had a drive

Good to see Young Tom doing the welding and stuff the PC H&S brigade would be up in arms 

I bet the young lad is having an absolute riot working on this. Been following it for a while and can't wait to see it done.

We remade the rear light brackets, with just single lights, will fit reserve and fog somewhere else

Have been playing with handbrake and wiring up lights today

Been carrying on with the wiring,

Fitted some harnesses



And sorting the handbrake, we've swapped the 944 cables, so they are now both short cables and welded a mount to terminate them



Fitted a handbrake lever, it's from a Ford.



Then connected the cables to the lever with a turnbuckle and stainless catenary cable



And it works, can lock the handbrake in about 4 clicks, I got Tom and wife to use the handbrake and they both can (Tom found it harder, but he's 12) and it doesn't interfere with anything else....

So it seems a bit too easy, would it be acceptable like that, or do I need to make linkages instead of the catenary cable?
