Going back to the IVA/SVA issues.... Agreed about doing the test without a screen, but what if you are building a buggy with a integral roll cage with the screen? (Gary/Big GPs for example) In which case you can't do the test without the screen and then this heated screen would meet the requirements.

This screen wouldn't fit a custom frame though and I'd hate to be the person trying to cut a screen costing that much $$$

The custom screen would be the one off price if £450 + VAT

Just a point regarding IVA... There is no way around this fact.. If you change or add parts to a buggy after you have successfully achieved you compliance certificate... that vehicle is no longer IVA compliant. Wonder where that would leave an owner should the vehicle be involved in an accident which then involved the boys in blue.

I can't really see the problem re changing things after the test. All cars are 'compliant' to build spec regulations wether they're tested individually (as in IVA) or en mass as with mainstream car makers.

Modifying cars is not illegal yet so surely as long as a car still meets C&U and MOT requirements all should be fine IMO.

How many plod would know their way around recommended  windscreen wiper speeds anyway? :-\

My understanding is DVSA can pull any iva car for a check and anything not to spec or on the original pass test sheet is a failure and you are supposed to pass the certification on when you sell the motor.

They must know a lot of cars are tweaked to pass the test knowing there will be  changes, after all a good shake down run will highlight unforseen problems if you trailered it to and from the test station

I think it is an empty threat by DVLA but how the insurance look at it may be different.

Examiners have even been interviewed on tv about how the cars set up for the test (mirrors, wheels windscreen etc) and then adapted again after the test. See wheeler dealers (cobra)  and also Mark Evans series building another cobra from scratch.

Ok - playing Devils Advocate here:

So . . . . Why don`t you just submit the car with the correct parts from the start then?

If C&U / IVA etc all require a particular item, ie: screen demist, then why go out of your way to avoid it if you are only going to fit a compliant item in there afterwards?  If your intention is not to fit a compliant item, then your car is technically outside of the regs for which you have just passed, and yes, you could be pulled up for it.

Noisy exhausts, wheels sticking out too far, illegal shape/font number plates, HID lights to name a few things that are often modified illegally, and yet we all expect to be pulled up on them, so when the Fed's flag down your car after the ANPR system has stated that its a Buggy with IVA approval, why wouldn`t they start looking for the more obscure stuff that has been altered form the build certificate with an inspection?

Getting to the evaluation stage of IVA is no mean feat, so why cut the last corner with avoidance tactics?    :-\

We all know that the younger generation of MOT / Plod know precious little about our cars and exceptions, but do not make the mistake of tarnishing that younger generation with the same brush when it comes to IVA regs etc, as its what they have been brought up and trained on, and they can spot things like this faster than we can avoid them.
