Motorbike cop pulled me over telling me i needed to get my front number plate sorted given me 14 days , where have others got their number plates on a sidewinder apparently they dont do stick on ones anymore, also told me i may have to get the can looked at on the exhaust cover it somehow with casing because of heat he mentioned a carbon fibre cover i dont really want to put rear cage on .has anyone put a raised cover around their can or knows anyone whose good at this stuff, its a turbo thomas maybe get in touch with them see if they can design something?

In which case, Dave (Billy) get it sorted! You don't want to be rocking the boat by having to go the vosa to have it checked! (I assume with all the DVLA closures the minor roadside pulling, send you to the location police station?)

I have the same issue with my front plate on the sidewinder and will now this has happened certainly will make a couple of 45degree brackets to tilt it forward. Always best not to give them reason to stop you.

He gave me an on the spot vehicle defect form and had vehicle details checked to be fair he seemed a decent guy and had a good look round and loved the colour but as you say andy I wont be rocking anyones boat just looking for ways how to do it and if thats the only thing I got a defect for best know now and get it sorted , told him I'm on a constant learning curve

I agree its better to be safe than sorry I have a cage fitted so don't have that problem I hope.

I have a Honda hornet motorcycle that has a high muffler that would burn the leg of a rear pillion.
Honda fitted a polished stainless steel cover and it remains cool when the exhaust is hot so you could do the same.
You could also have it engraved or cut out a pattern to make it look good.
You could wrap it in Exhaust Wrap for a temp solution or some heat shied cloth.

i do wonder some times weather the nice police man realy needed to do that,yes if you cant see number plate should give you a verbal,but as to exhuasts etc most of use could be removed from the highway for one thing or enother,burning your leg or eny other part on an exhuast is abit like ,hay stick your hand in a blender see if it hurts,common sense or is it just me against the nanny state

Maybe you should touch the exhaust of the Police bike and then ask him what he is going to do about his?

Cheers hunter maybe it was just the local motor factors  I asked didnt do them , about motorbike exhausts it was mention think he was pointing out that it sticks out the rear rather than close to the side on a bike

Motor factors won't do they cause for post 73 cars they are illegal but for use pre 73 we are fine. Might be an idea to mount the rear plate higher up as they may get you on the rear plate being obscured by exhaust too. I stress might! Many have never been stopped. I only point it out since the police are keen on ensuring all plates are clear so the ANPR cameras pick them up.

As for the heat, I wonder if it's just a case of "and while you are at if, you ought to sort out the heat" friendly word. Don't they would stop you directly.

There may be a good market for perforated silencer heat sheilds if this stopping stuff catches on with the authorities but like Andrew says if you plate was ok you may not have been stopped.

The front of a sidewinder is notoriously bad for a plate.

If you fit it in the recessed position, I bet it lies at a 45 degree angle and you wouldn't be able to see it properly, if at all, from the front.

This bothered me, so I created some stand off type brackets (lengths of strip steel bent into a v shape) to make the plate stand more upright.

Ive had no issues yet.....
