Hi all,

Spent weeks, no months looking for an oil leak or , more to the point trying to stop it from the right side rocker cover. Clean the head, checked it for level, changed numerous gaskets, including a rubber job. Leak got worse. Today , the leak got really bad. Well, found the route cause of the problem, it's the SCAT stainless rocker cover, its split slong where the SCAT logo has been stamped! My photo is rubbish, but if you can see the line just above my pinky, thats the cause. Back to standard VW covers for me.

Can you not braze it from the inside?

Stainless can be awkward stuff, I was thinking rough up the inside and use some JB Weld or similar epoxy paste.

All suggestions are possible, could even TIG it, bit concerned the metal is very thin where the pattern has been pressed in. Might just go back to OE.

Chuck the Chinese crap in the nearest skip and put some good quality bolt on cover dude

They may not be very fancy, but my rocker covers are original and were on the 72 Beetle I used, 44 years old and still don't leak!

Yep, back to bog standard for me.

Bit late now, but a trick way of finding oil leaks, is degreaser then dry followed by a dusting of talcum powder, run the engine and the leak will show up against the white.

Good shout roadrunner, after all thry are only two years old. Will give it a go 

Same heading, different cause. Developed another oil leak, this time from the oil dipstick area. Got a temperature probe dipstick fitted, looks like oil mist is getting past the installed felt seal,, then blowing over the exhaust. Ive now replaced the seal. Is it possible the guide tube is cracked where it enters the crankcase, can't be certain of this yet.
The engine is new, done less than 2000 miles, all compressions are good at 175 psi. The only breather tube I have runs from the oil filler down to drain. This fault is brand new, could it be crankcase pressure? If so any advice on the old issue of crankcase breathing.

As someone said above, try giving it a clean and then a dust of talc.  Might make the source more obvious although if it is a misting it may not. 
I have the same type of dipstick sender and the felt gets oily but no leak.

Grab yourself a couple of beers a sandwich and take a pew....
