On a different note, and perhaps this should go in the "Insurance" thread but does anyone know of a firm prepared to insure a buggy short term..? I just need a day's insurance to test drive but can't find anyone willing and the current owner is insured for himself only

Hi and welcome, I see you like prowlers, even better when they're GREEN, this is mine, I bought it last year as a finished buggy, but since I got it I've built a new dashboard, changed the seats, tailered mats for it, removed the rear bench seat, added decals, bought a new exhaust and spark arrester, new rear tyres, new gearstick, modified the hardtop, changed bolts and clips, flush fitted the rear lights,  fitted harnesses and I still want to buy more, so as said before, its never finished...and good luck in your search ,

now that's very nice...  obviously the question of exhausts is a whole topic in its own right... can anyone give me a newbie lesson in pros and cons of the various types or is it down to personal taste and style more than anything?

If not, then google short term car insurance, and you may find some very inflated prices, but you will get up to 28 days cover

And as for exhausts... thats a big big topic so will keep this very simplistic... and there are loads and loads of options!

Cannon exhausts as a rule are crap for performance if either single pipe per port OR pipe to 2 ports (left OR right)

Merged - all 4 ports merged into 1 single pipe (equal lengths) are much much better for power etc.

BUT Buggies look right with cannons (in my opinion) so I got a super system from Mike (Beelzebub) with the merged into 1 and then splits into 2x canons.

And of course the main factor - are they loud? ... YEAH!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the summary Andy... I do like the look of those dual cannons although I'm not sure I'd want to get too close behind you on the road as it really looks like a round of shells could well emerge at any second. Maybe I'd better not start on the modifications just yet, at least not until I've paid the man and got it home!

A-Plan were extremely helpful in so far as they have explained that there's just no way of getting test drive cover for a non-standard type of vehicle... just none. Apparently it's recognised in the insurance game as a significant gap in the market for custom, classic and specialist vehicles so for anyone who fancies a go on Dragon's Den...

Insuranc wise if you have a fully comp policy on your daily it may cover you to drive another vehicle with 3rd party only but you would be covered for the test drive.

Jas swb rear ends are a bit bulbous for my taste but the wife has a lwb one that looks good.

Sooooo.... I did it... and it appears that fromeflyer was right after all that blue really is the colour. A round trip of 300 miles and a few quid later and I am (very nearly) the proud owner of a particularly fine example of a Jas swb buggy, properly rebuilt with way more skill than I'll probably ever have but hey, now I have a place to start learning from 

I say very nearly because as much as it pained me to do so, my lovely (wife) and I drove back without it... Until we've finished sorting out the tanking for the garage (which is kind of underground) I wouldn't want to park it there so unfortunately it will be a few weeks before the fun can begin but if ever I needed an incentive to get something finished, this garage project is it. Pity it's dark and pouring with rain or I'd be out there now...
