Thanks for the tip Hudge but I just couldn't live with that back end. I've had an aversion to rear wheels being partially covered ever since the Citroen DS, CX, BXs of the 70s and 80s so it's got to be a swb Prowler-style body for me I think

I guess you can get any colour to start with but the darker ones will require several coats of yellow to look right....

Sounds like you half know what you want/looks right for you. So keep browsing the market, try and select one or two that aren't too far from you to see in the flesh, and you'll suddenly find you fall in love and your buggy personality is set. Exciting times for you !

I loved the first buggy I saw in reality but made myself look at a second just to compare and constrast. I purchased the second by a whisker of a decision but both owners were really friendly and the first had urged me to shop about. Welcome to the friendly buggy universe.

If you put roughly where about you live in your profile ....if one or two of us is close by you, you might be able to blag a run out in a couple of buggies to give you an idea or point of reference.

At last... The guy I've been trying to get hold of with a buggy for sale has emailed me back so I guess the next step is to ask a few questions a go to see it... I'm trying to figure out from Dave DND's Buggypedia what model it is, what's puzzling me is that the windscreen surround is body-coloured and looks like its part of the shell itself rather than a separate element.

Who knows, if it's right I could become a bugger in the next few days. Can't tell you how excited I am but then I probably don't have to...

Shaggy... That sounds like a blinding idea  ;-)up I'll add it to my profile but for anyone with a bit of time to spare and a spare seat I'm in Frenchay, Bristol

The most common ones with a screen surround that is a part of the bonnet is a GP Mk2 and a Californian. There may be a few more but them are the ones that spring to mind right now both are LWB but the bonnets do fit other vehicles.

Hi Manxmad,

That sounds like a marvellous idea, it may help me to explain to Mrs ChinaShop what the big deal is because although she's fully supportive, I think she's struggling a bit to understand and it would be great to get her even half as excited as I am ;). Are you around over the Easter weekend at all?

manxmad / fromeflyer thanks for the offers but now they may not be necessary as we're off to Detbyshire on Friday to take a really close look and have a spin in an incredibly smart swb Jas that, having seen photos of, I just can't get out of my head  ::)

Nothing the matter with jas shells they are tried and tested but I personally am not keen on the rear of the swb.
Enjoy your viewing and hopefully you will be a buggy owner sooner rather than later.

I can't see whatever it is you can see and don't like snoopy but knowing little about the subtleties of buggy design (yet) apart from what floats my boat I'm genuinely interested to understand what it is about the back end that puts you off..?

On a different note, and perhaps this should go in the "Insurance" thread but does anyone know of a firm prepared to insure a buggy short term..? I just need a day's insurance to test drive but can't find anyone willing and the current owner is insured for himself only
