This is a father, son project, ( when PlayStation dosent rule ) have had beetles for over 30 years and still own my third, always fancied a rail, just never

got round to it,
Picked up a rolling pan, through the local vw club.
Plan to turn it into something like this

Last weekend consisted of a 950 mile round trip to collect the frame kit.

Had a problem with the overall theme of the build,
mad max, black and basic ?
Navy seals fast assault vehicle
Or sad trucker with spots on the roof ?
Went and picked up a copy of volksworld ,
Huge moment of clarity,on the cover, a jeans theme buggy, and since I have owned a jeans bug for 30 years, it all fell into place. The rail will be a jeans rail .
Build is a bit along and will add more when I can

I bet the rof mtd rail got a few looks on the way home, keep us posted on the progress.

Got a little shed time, so did a bit of mock up,

Showed a few details needing attention, headlight mounts need stiffened, rears might need moving for asthetics, all the welds are going to be sanded back and blended

Thanks, this is a dreamshack frame, had to collect as Mark dosent deliver North of the border

What Glenn has not mentioned here - if you look carefully at the pics you may spot that the whole cab area can flip forwards. An idea of Glenn's which worked pretty well, a bit Nova!   Glenn also failed to mention his magpie son who was all over our donor vehicle pile like a rash gathering bits for a project of his own. like father like son I guess.  Dub in the blood

Blond moment there, it wasnt glenn's son going through our spares pile for bits, it was another chap's son who bought at the same time.   I think he will be along soon too ;-)

No worries, thought it was me having a senior moment as I was sure Stuart hadn't been scrounging, if he had, then half your stock would be in Scotland now.
Have you tried out any of the toys I brought you ?

Not a lot has happened on the build lately, got some free foam and cut to shape for the seats, bought 3 metres of denim, just got to get on with some sewing

Thyroid trouble has held me back quite bit lately, but today got a bit of welding and some painting done als a week or so ago I picked up a spare engine

This is a late 1200, so will be fitted to my beetle and the bus 1700 fitted to the rail

has anyone else had problems with dreamshack frames , mines so out of shape ive had to cut the sides of and re weld, the front and rear mounts have been cut of and put right

I know of one that wasn't happy with the welding and twisted his diagonally the first time he went offroad in it, but then, they're not really designed for anything rough, so as much his own fault as anything.
I think you'd be better off in you own thread rather than someone's project one mind...
