I sometimes plug a 3.5 jacked ear piece into the two way splitter...

It clips on my ear and I can hear everything fine no matter how fast I am going
or the amount of racket there is around me 

Are there any good portable units around?
Looking at someting for the EBI trip, wold like something that  can take between vehicles.

When we are all out together we have chosen channel 23 as our default....
It is our standard start channel and we don't have to faff about asking.....

Soooh remember it's................ Channel 23! 

As you can see its  my default startup channel now 

The speaker's were cheap Maplin's ones I think, they are connected to the radio
via a two splitter thingy... Plus, being right behind our heads they work pretty well and we can hear it all 

Don't underestimate the racket from your bugs when driving along....

I have a nice hand set too, Dave may be able to say about it, its much better
than the ones that come with the radio though!

Found a Brand new harvard 410t hand held CB for just £13 and it works a treat will also look to get an incar unit.

I generally use these Midlands, small enough to fit under the dash, and cheap enough on Ebay, when they get soaked to death.....

Wot's the difference

Also called a Multimode......Operates in AM FM modes, but also on the sidebands i.e each AM channel has two extra 'modes' either side ( ie sidebands).....these can tx and rx a lot further than the 'normal channels'. And under good atmospheric conditions the signal will 'skip' or bounce between the ground and the ionosphere across vast distances.......
Also called freebanding cos its naughty, altho there is talk of it being legalised on the cept channels next year.

You can often 'hear' sidebanders calling on the low 27/81 channels when the 'skip is in'......albeit off frequency so you cant understand them........their channels are based on American/European frequencies ending in 5 etc....ie 27.185.....27.555
not the uk 27/81 freqencies ending in 25  ie 27.60125.  27. 99125

I had the full mods done on mine, to give the hi-highs and the low lows of channels - and many an hour was spent chatting to people all over the world - happy days !!
