Paul, did you weld the box section too or just bolt it?

Just bolted it, just as well as the first time I got the placement wrong and it was to far back 

Did think about welding for extra stiffness but tbh didn't think it would be worth the effort. For extra strength you could do what David suggested and use a solid bar under the pan as well.

However the seat fixings i have seen on cars and vans probably aren't as strong as that, and I have a view a lot of the stress in a collision should be carried by the seat belt mountings not just the seat.
