I'd like to clean up some rusty and corroded parts and having not done it before wondered what would be a good general purpose media to use in a blasting cabinet. I'm thinking that after cleaning they would then be painted or have some sort of protective coating applied. There are quite a number of different products with different applications so any advise would be much appreciated

Soda or nut shell media works well.

We just use the sand blasting grit after it needs blowing off and wiping before painting but it really depends on the materials you are cleaning and the surface finish you want

I was going to use it to clean up brake parts, engine parts and covers etc

Wire brush in drill on low speed is very effective . Wear a mask and watch out for snagging wire bits in clothes....easily done,

If it is just rust a electrolytic bath works well a d is simple to make.

allways used glass bead myself  as leaves a smootth    finish   or white vinegar to remove rust

I had thought about glass beads but wasn't sure of their aggressiveness ? Do you use them for general purpose stripping/cleaning? And finally what size would you recommend please?
