It's OK, it's a rough guide. You can get gadgets to recalibrate. Mine reads 3/4 when full, 1/2 is pretty much spot-on, I fill up when it gets below 1/4.

I carry a can but have never needed it in 12 years so it works for me

You can calibrate it by be ding the arm so 1gallon/5 litres is at the top of the red area so you know fuel is low.

is the mini  filler neck  totally different to the vw  one,   will the  mini cap not fit onto the vw   neck anyone got a picture of the mg  midget neck   as got the flip top but  no locking cap underneath   tried numerous caps  but all to tall so using a vw t3 locking cap at present

It is dark green wing bead with the flat cut down to suit the depth.

I just Googled an MGB one, same cap. Most BMC/BL cars had the same cap.

I modified a new standard tank by blocking off the original filler pipe and adding a new one to the top so I could have a Le Man's style chrome cap. The air vent on the O/S of the tank went via a one way valve allowing the tank to breath but not leak fuel. Hope that helps. 😎👍
