Hi Paul, I would be very interested in seeing the tech docs, it's a shame that nobody came up with a company that could regrind the worm bearing face at a reasonable cost.  Most of rollers I've looked at appear to be reusable as when they are over tightened the outer bearings tend to fail first which causes the damage.

I think using the correct grade of grease is the most important thing you can do for maintenance which should be semi liquid EPL0. I've seen normal lithium bearing grease (what TRW half heartedly fill their boxes with), moly cv grease and even vegetable based rubber grease in the boxes I've stripped which are all to thick to recirculate along the worm.

The last box I rebuilt I did fit a grease nipple on the top and a removable bolt to let any air out which worked a treat.

If they are saveable I'd recommend an early box every time, the quality of the engineering and parts are far superior to the later boxes.
Cheers

The plate up against the tub is duplicated on the other side making a sandwich with the tub wall in the centre.. The is a forum member called Mathew, id.. parymu.... not sure I have spelt this right but he can offer a plate similar but not as large as I have had to use. His comes with a central seal and the nuts and bolts. (Mathew.. can you introduce yourself and the old skool business to Gary).  Mathew is also on ebay.

"parmaynu"    He's the man with the kit for your steering column.
