Hi All this is my first buggy so I am trying to learn from scratch, my question is probably very simple to experienced buggy owners, I have a FF LWB pic on the forum, which is best way to get access to the petrol tank?  Can bonnet be removed or best to access underneath ?  When tank was full it appeared to be overfilled and running on the floor, but then after only 70 miles (on a full tank) it ran out of petrol.  So not sure if tank or rubbers but muck in fuel filter.  Any help appreciated please. Cheers Deb

Deb I have a LWB FF too. The tank can really only be accessed by removing the bonnet dash and screen. The tank sits at a tipped forward angle compared to the original Beetle. I found that the fuel leaks through the sender unit gasket (yes I fitted a new one) on the top. I find that I can put about 20ltrs/4galls so its not completely full. I get about 100 miles from it. Hope that helps.

Blue Hylomar sealant for the sender gasket as it's fuel resistant

Other possible leak site is the filler neck where there is probably a brazed on pipe as a pressure vent. Check whether there's a pipe on it and where it goes. You can fit a valve that lets air through but not fuel

Your filler is right rear so if coupled to the top rear corner of the tank you should be able to get more then 4 or 5 usable gallons, get some photos up when you have the bonnet off. it may be the filler hose has gone porous with this modern fuel or the breather is incorrect.

Deb's buggy is a Fibrefab RAT not an FF Buggy.

Zip Buggy (Mark) it'a going  to be different positioning.

Ah. She said FF LWB in her post - I should've looked at the pic.

Hi All just an update, bonnet off (not an easy job) due to a black tar like substance used between the bonnet & wings. Good news tank looks sound but sender gasket leaking, no breather pipe on it and pipe on filler neck needs to be replaced. So will order these and then put back together.  Cheers Deb

if you have a vented filler cap you do not need a breather, finding the leaks is good news and easily solved. you can get beading to put either side of the bonnet or beetle wing beading cut down will do.

Hi snoopy thanks for that info did not know about beading being available.  Also it does not have a vented cap, but was gonna replace it because it is a boat type cap with a massive key which I am not keen on. Cheers Deb
