Matt it is great that you and the virvins settled in so well and felt accepted by all even the foreign clubs.

You clutch is engine out to repair the clutch post 72 is pretty bulletproof pre 72  could need a bearing carrier and clips a d possibly a clutch cover if the finger has gone into it a photo would be good when you do it.

 interesting that you have a post 72 clutch mechanism but the bearing support tube is missing from the input shaft, are there 3 location holes with thread in 6mm from memory spaced around the seal where it bolts to.

if not you can buy a conversion tube that screws into the seal area although I have drilled and tapped post 66 boxes to fit a standard tube.

I'm not sure now. I've replaced the  bearing with a new 74> that I had laying around. Engine is back in and I've just got back from a spine down the road. All seams okay Snoopy

What a weekend. 

A big thank you to everyone involved. It was great to meet you all and were all so welcoming for me and Roisin. We can't wait to get to our next buggy show and are totally hooked! 

Like I said before at the presentation I wouldn't of been their without the help on this forum and receiving the award for furthest travelled was fantastic. It turns out that on that day, it was the 5th anniversary of my buggy getting delivered by the car transporter and where the story all started!!!

For anyone who is new to the buggy scene, you can do it. My longest trek in the buggy was 60 miles max prior to Stoneleigh and IBW. I didn't have the confidence that the car I build would last, or be safe enough to go along. Those two shows were so close together and covering 2200+ miles it is possible.

I will post up some pictures later on, Roisin has loads on her phone and we will send on them for everyone to see here.

Matt earlier bearings had pins that sat in cup to hang them your 74 relies on the tube to support the bearing so it will fail again.

Arran we yellow buggys salute you and your buggy for venturing so so far, and even more so to Roisin who continually displayed humour, resilience and style. Given her sense of mischief we look forward to her photos with some trepidation.

Machine 7 have the support tubes advertised on their site!. You prize the old oil seal out with a screw driver and carefully knock the new support tube in. They are about £40 now i suppose, all the parts have jumped up in price lol. As Snoopy say's, without the support tube; one fast getaway or a hill start will cause it to come off again.

I took the carb off today to see what beat me on the last 60 miles and it wasn't the float valve, one of the lead plugs that block the drillings into the float chamber has gone AWOL.
This meant that the float was not rising to close the valve and petrol was exiting just as fast as the pump could spray it all over the very hot exhaust.

If they were EMPI HPMX I would understand but Italian IDF's?

Still, at least it didn't catch fire this time.

I'm glad to hear you stopped before it did go up in smoke Are you going to get it re-plugged or buy a replacement carb. Even Weber can make bad carbs then or do you think they were refurbished when you got them?

They have been good for 10 years so think it may just be a bit of bad luck.

I'm going to epoxy a plug in to it and do the rest just in case.

Lead plug coming out is bad news and rare have you got the thick heat gaskets between the carbs and manifolds so the carbs stay cooler and suffer less heat expansion on long runs although the ambient temp was low onthe return trip.

Never had any need for thermal gaskets, fuel has never boiled or had problems with evaporation but was thinking after such hot running over in Germany the cooling effect of the rain may have had a part to play.

I did this as a memory jogger for the future..
