Hi.  Have mentioned on here before that the standard £ 50 ish quid grant buggy wheel is imo pretty awful, have looked at finding a better quality one but to no avail yet, can't justify several hundred quid for one as work a bit quiet just now, So I have a plan! Just wanted to see what people think and / or if anyone has tried this before. My main beef with the grant is its cheap feel, the wheel rim is too thin and the edges of the spokes are too sharp , so when in use it is cutting into my fingers, I had the thought of wrapping ,whipping or binding or whatever the correct term is the rim and spokes in some sort of cord  or thin rope, this is available in some snazzy colours, I tried it with some elastic shock cord I had in the buggy shed, this gives the rim a thicker and more comfortable feel and also takes the sharp edges off the spokes. So yes I am happy with the feel  and look of it , I could have say a black with yellow fleck for the rim with yellow spokes or whatever othe scheme takes my fancy. The problem is getting a neat finish where the spokes enter the rim. When I wrap the rim it's fine till you get to a spoke then you can't get the cord around the rim as the spoke is in the way. I can only think you would need to stick the end to a spoke , wrap each spoke seprately, then wrap the rim in sections up to each spoke, sticking the ends as you finish a section and then sticking short pieces on to the bits of rim that you can't wrap due to the spoke s Being in the way. Time consuming but the bits I tried looked and felt really good, just if I can get the bits I can't wrap to sit right. Any thoughts?

Search out the wicker steering wheels that you used to see on Beetles many years ago, as may give you an insight as to how the shape went for them

Thanks dave , would love to try my hand with the wicker binding , looks classy yet funky and I reckon would sit well on a buggy. Is the darker bit still wicker ? Or could it be metal, I have'nt seen one of these wheels in the flesh , does anyone have any idea?. A trip to the craft shop I think is in order !!
