Your attention to detail is admiral I just hope your sender unit last longer than the 2 in the Jas one did 6 months before total failure number 2 worked for a year and now has dead spots on the scale.

The original beetle senders were wound to suit the shepe of the tank the new ones are evenly wound linear display.

Hey Folks Hope all are safe and well.

Managed to enjoy some driving last year, however had to garage the buggy as we found a flaw that needed to be addressed.

Looking for some feedback please on a colour choice regarding my fix....


My Rear lights are all LED based and we had flush fitted them as per the below images.







All lights are working perfectly well with full brightness and also passed MOT, however whilst out and about we noticed that the car behind me cannot easily see when i am braking or when my signal lights come on. Having investigated further i realised that LED's are usually directional unlike a normal bulb that emits light at a wider angle.

With the rear of the body at an angle, the lights were facing up rather than straight and unless you were in a van or lorry it was not clear to see the lights during the day.

To avoid any accidents i had 2 options  -  change the light units for standard bulbs or create some kind of housing to adapt my current LED's.

Choosing the harder option, i bought some 4" drain pipe and put together the below....







Fitted it in and tested the light out and its perfect now....


my first attempt was using Stainless Steel however the heat whilst brazing had caused the metal to warp in places as the metal was bent in places to accommodate the contour of the body which meant i could not chrome or polish as all defects would be visible.








Second attempt was to use Aluminium and cold weld using JB Weld. This turned out much better and got a much smoother finish.










the dilemma i have now is the finish....and wanted to get your thought please....

two have a slightly polished finish and two have been wrapped in black vinyl.

final finish will be powder coating so do i go Matt / Satin Black or Silver.... i like both finishes but cannot make my mind up....please help......

















 

Both look great but personally I prefer the silver.

The silver looks better for me.
How about anodizing in orange?

I did think about that too, but will plain Orange Anodize clash with the Orange flake?

It doesn't come out like a solid colour. have a look on line.

I rather like the contrast of the black.

That is a stunning colour of your buggy, both lights look fab but I like the silver. 👍

I would colour match them to the LUDICRUZ graphic on the rear - to me that looks dark grey ?

Or why not paint them to match in Orange Flake ?

A common problem with led units on buggies but the answer is go with your thoughts.

What about one of the 2 styles from the dipped engine parts?

I prefer the silver mainly as I think it is keeping with the rest of the buggy colour scheme. Fantastic fix though. 

Another thought

A satin (not shiny) silver inner would help to reflect the poor led light and match the stainless, but I think the back contrasts nicely with the Buggy.

How good is your powder coater with masking areas off and doing two colours?

Not an uncommon procedure with wheels nowadays, but some don't like doing it

Silver inner with black outer rings ?  There's a challenge for you

Last night I ordered some Chrome effect Vinyl wrap from Amazon, arrived this evening and I have just wrapped one light holder, and it looks pretty good...
