Barrels on at last. I'd like to use a pump with a spin on filter combined. Has anyone got the scat one? Be interested to hear what it's like. Cheers Keith

Keith just seen this on the thread, I managed to find a Claudes Buggies filter housing, uprated the oil pump to a CB Maxi 3 Full flow pump and of course a WIX filter 51515 Sorry its a video but you can get the idea, been running this for 12 months and the oil is coming out very clean, too big to post directly so here is the link  https://www.facebook.com/chris.hudgell.3/videos/vb.100000021383410/1870656509611710/?type=2&theater&notif_t=video_processed&notif_id=1522178852970573

thanks for posting that Chris. I did end up getting the scat one, quality doesn't look too bad. it's amazing that these engines go as long as they do with just a tea strainer filter!

Yes it is OK for tea and stones, otherwise oil filters would not have been introduced into modern cars

It does take a lot of tea to motivate me to get out into the garage

Got the engine tarted up with the Chinese chrome- I can't resist it!


Got the engine in, twin 34 ict carbs.


Brakes filled and bled with silicon fluid, washer bottle fitted.

Got some mst pushrod tubes. Bit of a story on the blue and gold empi ones I brought.... sanded off the blue anodizing coz I wanted black and gold... sent them to the anodisers we use at work and because there were traces of blue on the ends, you guessed it, they cames back sodding blue again!! I have to say for £109 quid the finish on the mst ones is not great. If I can be arsed I'll try the anodisers again.


Finally thanks to Manxdavid for the gearknob- we have history of white gearknobs and I think he wanted me to uphold the tradition for which I am very grateful!

For the dizzy it's an eBay jobbie- was under £60, we'll see if it fires up! Sold under the name power spark...

Started wiring the drop down electric shelf- I dislike wiring, but it went ok! Turned over the engine on the starter for the first time in over a year, exciting stuff.


Got the washer bottle positioned, fits nicely here


Fitted the exhaust, very happy with the fit and finish. I'm going to be doing a lot of polishing

Please let me know how you get on with it. Now IMHO that lovely exhaust looks really exposed from an unexpected point of view ( I have first hand experience of this) is there a cage to complete the rear???

Hi Hudge, no rear cage planned, but yes I would cry if I got rear ended. Best to not even think about it!

I've been using it since the type 3 rear conversion I did and have to say it is the way ahead for classics that don't have ABS.
