Hudge is right as the clue is:

'....if you bid on this you  get wheel  nut  .'

So the question is how much is a wheel nut worth and what's the p&p ?

He just fired off two of my OCDs...braking?! I presume he means breaking? And Beetle wheels have got bolts not nuts...NURSE! ;D

He could just be trying to avoid the huge costs of both eBay and PayPal.
If you message him he tells you what he has and you sort it outside of eBay. So could well be genuine.

This is also a standard scam
Send him money and no ebay/paypal protection for the buyer

I checked through his feedback and he seems to have been buying parts from most of 'our' usual suppliers in the past so could be genuine.

I don't like this 'wheelnut' crap though, just list what you've got for sale!

I wouldnt touch him as he is quite happy to openly swindle ebay and paypal (although they can afford it) and by doing so removes all buyer protection.
What would his moral standpoint towards a dissatisfied customer be?

I'd only deal that way if I could go and collect stuff in person, same as if I bought things off a forum from someone I didnt know. I'd be wary of buying any second hand bits sight-unseen.

Sorry but this is a usual way to advertise a car being broken on ebay. He has to put something for the price and a wheelnut is the usual item. Check out other adds - search "breaking" in Vehicle parts - they all read the same

He is also not  "quite happy to openly swindle ebay " either (unlike some items that are there just to promote a service/product) - he/she clearly states "Send a message and I will list the parts you need" That means a) ebay message that is traceable and b) he will pay ebay fees as normal - you can always collect too.

This is absolutely NTDWM but there are a lot of unnecessary pitchforks out for what is quite a normal add.  :-\

If you want to see a real scam there's lots on Amazon that are "contact me first to check stock of this ex-demo item (that's 30% less than retail)"
