The trouble with fitting to a beetle pan is you don't know how many repairs it  has had and how true it is Another point with a steel frame is they will spring when released from the jig.

Many years since this was updated, an ongoing fight with depression and other issues has slowed work to a crawl, things are still progressing, slowly and in bursts but any the better than nothing.

Slowly ticking away at this, been trying to get somewhere with the wiring, decided to use a 50cal ammo box to seal everything away from muck and water. Just need to sort out knitting all the multicolored spaghetti together and fitting it into the box

At least you can assemble it on the bench then drop it in and connect the ends to the relevant parts' good to see some progress

Things have veered off in a slightly different direction, a chance Facebook thread steered me in the direction of a part built manta Ray. Just before the lock down it arrived at mine.Son has taken a real interest in working on it.
Engine is now running, tinware fitted, brakes working, searchable working and pedal assembly reassembled and fitted.
Have given it a social distancing paint job ( looks ok from 6 feet )

looks tidy and an easy project 

Brilliant bit of veering off. Not only a MantaRay but yellow to boot.

Double bonus points !

Got the pan driving today, no steering and almost no brakes so only back and forward

Long time since I updated this thread, not a great deal has happened, sandrail totally untouched, manta still in the hands of dvla, re v5
But one thing has advanced,
Two post lift!!!
Not in the slightest buggy related, but a big step forward for me,
Bougt this 3 years ago, then suffered severe mojo failure,  couple of weeks ago, son bent my ear about it and all hell let loose
New lift nuts ordered and fitted,

Columns lifted and bolted.
Wiring sorted
And I now have a flying sandrail





Hopefully once motorcycle projects get moved forward,  and everything dumped under the lift, I can get the sandrail finished
