Hello there,
My name is Iain. I'm a Scot living in Finland. Used to lurk a bit on the old forum. Haven't had a buggy before, always had British motorbikes, but have lusted after the things since I was very young (child of the 70's!)...Anyway, having been stalking most of the local buggies for a couple of years, this one suddenly became for sale. It was -30° here last week...seemed like the perfect time to buy a buggy. Gearbox is a bit fiddly. Maybe needs new bushes? Can anyone recommend a good supplier and best make/material? It has some pretty ugly trailer style lights. Hope to get some pre-67 rear lamps for it, hubcap clips and hubcaps...oh and a big daisy on the bonnet  ;-)up
Cheers,
Iain

Hi & Welcome..

Reproduction parts.. VW Heritage, JustKampers etc.
Kit car parts of all types Car Builder Solutions. (Take you a week to read the free brochure).

Love the snow, bet it`s as cold as it has been in my garage the last few weeks. Grease as thick as paste, every metal tool etc so cold. I must be mad because I love it.

Thanks.
My Dad used VW Heritage for just about everything on his Beetle. Forgot about them! He had a'73 with a tuned 1600 built by Laurie Petit and disc brakes. It was passed onto a mate recently as he's in his 80's now, it needed a new floor and he decided to bow out of motoring.
Cheers,
Iain

Thanks for the warm welcome.
For those interested in that sort of thing.
The body is a Finnish produced one a Mac Buggy. There are a couple of home grown makes. A Cactus which has a droopy front end and squarish back and something very strange known as a Desert Dog.

Moi Iain

Welcome to the forum. One of my colleagues used to have Beetles and such up in Turku i will ask him if there are any parts suppliers he knows of within Finland. may save the hassle of importing.

Thanks!
There's certainly a lot of Beetles about here. Not putting salt on the roads means that a lot have survived.
Cheers,
Iain

Welcome Iain.

Be good to see a shot of the engine/rear.

You show it in the snow without any form of top so I assume you don't have a soft top for when the weather gets worse ?!

There you go: rear end view. It came with a soft top which I have yet to investigate properly. Previous owner said it was useless. May serve as a model for a new one. The car is garaged and won't be used til Spring.

Welcome to the site.I can see why you need new rear lights. I would suggest spreading salt near beetle owners homes they do not take long to rot away and become spares donors..

Is Finland relaxed with car modifications or are you limited by regulations?

You can't build buggies now, although I believe regulations are becoming more relaxed. Its allegedly possible to import them from Sweden, but they need to be registered a certain way/or built before a certain date. Frustrating as buggies are really cheap in Sweden.
