Got a hobby weld bottle earlier in the year, deposit, gas and a regulator came to around £140 but that includes £60 deposit but the hobby weld is far better than pub Co2!

Can dig out the receipt for exact costs

Hi Muzzy

the bottle as Snoopy says is not very big.. BOC was allowing the sale of the large high pressure bottles but there are hoops to jump through and as the bottles are lease you pay during the term and not a one off fee like the hobby weld. I also have another bottle from a chap near knutsford i see him at Newark Autojumble occasionally. Again small size bottle and deposit etc.

I only use the Hobbyweld bottles filled with Argon for the Tig welder and mig for Ali and Stainless. I use CO2 for normal mild steel work as it does the job for what we do.
I am a Fabricator by trade and have used pretty much every type of gas and welding machine available. for mild steel the better gas was always 5% Argon in CO2

I do have i large Migweld5 empty bottle that i am trying to get exchanged but finding somewhere that will change it without all the paperwork and huge lease costs locally is difficult.

A Simon say big bottles are near impossible to get and they will invalidate the house insurance if you do not list them a work colleague has boc oxy acetylene on rental from the mid 80,s but they went due to every increasing rental cost and regulations.

Must say the hobbyweld 5 gives a lot less splatter than the pub co2 bottle I had so the welding looks better.
Your choice is adams gas or hobbyweld my deciding factor was the12 miles difference to the stockist.

The Argon helps as a cleaning agent and inert gas. so the weld pool is better protected. CO2 is cheap ish £25 refill if spotting up its fine, but if you have anything you would be putting longer welds down then make sure both surfaces are really clean. even altering the wire and amperage will not stop all the spatter.

The Hobby weld bottle will last a while if its just small pieces you are doing.

The old pub bottle lasted me years after the big beetle weld project which started with the disposable bottles which run out really fast and empty the wallet just as fast.

I have a full size one tho i had to pay £100 for it. I suggest if you know of a welding company if you have a swop you may be able to do a deal ? other than that there are a few places that sells you the bottle tho its the same size as Snoopys one but for a good price, and they dont charge rent. The half size does last quite a bit.. 8)
