Pier Pressure - Cruising Against Cancer

For those of you not yet up to speed with my Charity Run around the Country, please read here   http://www.pierpressure2016.co.uk/index.html

Sunday August 14th (Day 3 of 10)

Today we will be visiting the Isle of Bute and catching 3 ferries by lunchtime. Only 2 piers to visit on this day which will give us the time to 'take my Doon' along 'Tak-ma-Doon' Road. A quick detour across the Forth Bridge before heading straight through the centre of Edinburgh, and catching some Dinner there before ending the day at Berwick upon Tweed.

Piers visited

11. Rothsey  12. Dunoon

Those wanting to spend the third night with us we will be saying at;

Travelodge Berwick on Tweed
North Rd,
Berwick-upon-Tweed
TD15 1UQ
0871 984 6279

If you are in this area today, then I could really do with some help and support. If you have any official contacts that may be of use, then please let me know. If you know anyone in the local groups of the Breast cancer Care or Cancer Research Charities that we are supporting, Newspapers, Local media, local radio, Mayors, anyone official that is up for a photo shoot, or even rent-a-crowd to cheer us on, then can you get them to the piers for our photo shoots? If you have a Buggy and want to join us for todays cruise, then we would love to have you on board, the more the merrier.

Obviously, you can see that with what we are trying to accomplish, it does mean that we are very limited on time, so any drinks or refreshments that you can pass in the direction of the team would be very much appreciated, and silly things like pointing out where the nearest toilet stops are can really save us a lot of time.

Hopefully we will not need any, but it would be useful to know if anyone has any workshop facilities or tools nearby in case of emergency repairs.

And finally, its all about the money - every single penny counts, and it could be that one penny that makes the difference

So please, if you have not yet done so, then please click here:

Look forward to cruising with you

Now that my money pit is on the road I'll be looking to join you lot! Probably from the Fourth Road to Edinburgh and then I'll head off back when you continue towards berwick. I will post up here closer to the time.

I'll fire off an email to STV, the Scottish version of ITV to see if they'll be interested in a interview etc down at the castle. The only thing is getting directly to the castle may not be possible as the Edinburgh Tattoo is starts on the 5th. This is a big military show in the grounds directly outside the castle, saying that it may be possible to get into the courtyard where this takes place during the day but you'd need to contact the organisers.

http://www.edintattoo.co.uk/contact-us
http://www.edinburghcastle.gov.uk/contact-us/
http://www.stv.tv/info/contact//

Plenty of service stations on the way once you're back on the motorways towards edi and berwick, the Fourth road bridge is full of construction contra-flows and an average speed restriction is in place at 40mph, sometimes down to 30 so it good to be prepared, A1 sourth bound passed edi is full of speed cameras and can go form single to dual carriageway quite often as well.

I'm not sure about the west coast, but near Edinburgh there are these chaps... http://www.pfpcoachworks.co.uk/ ...... if you get stranded for parts im sure they'll be able to sort you out, admittedly they are more body work but with all the resto's they've done im sure they'll have parts.

Otherwise... Enjoy the lovely scenery, the haggis and of course our national drink.... Irn Bru!  :D

Hello Chad

Finally logged myself in and had a look at the timings yeh i think i will join you guys in Dumfries , then stick with you guys till Berwick. I know someone that i think works up at the castle. Could ask to see if he would know anyone that could maybe help you out with that.

The thing is thou as the last post says the stands are now all up , there are some concerts on before the start of the Tattoo , it would depend probable on the times you were thinking. As the city will be very busy with tourists by then as well with the fringe in full swing.

I can ask and see if he could help you guys out with letting you do a photo shoot he can only say yes hopefully lol

Evening Chad

Thanks for the reply you are actually in luck just checked there is no performance on a Sunday so that is good for a start , so you never know if i can speak to my neighbour.

Will try and see if i can catch him over the weekend and see what he says. If Aiden can get someone from STV i am thinking that could be totally doingable. But it is a working army base as well as being a tourist attraction so i know there will be an army presence there. Normally it is very low key but it is just because the Tattoo is on

Getting excited as going to pick up my hood on Tuesday so hoping to fit it next week most of the work on it has been done. Just got a couple of the awkward bolts to do

I did email them, but with it coming up soon I will email and call again just to hopefully remind them. Especially now that you have a timetable up!

I would be looking to join as you get over the kincarden bridge and pass towards the fourth road bridge, and hang around and follow until you leave Edinburgh.

Hi Chad

Well just a quick update about Edinburgh Castle i did speak to my neighbour and yeh intially it was a straight no chance sorry but thought i would be honest with you. However that was on Sunday and after i explained what you were doing , he said the office was closed so he would speak to someone in the office on Monday

Will try and catch him through the week if not thinking there are some other places where you could take photos that might be well just as good. Ashame if we cannot pull this off as i think that really would be one awesome photo , your buggy centre front in front of the castle entrance then buggies either side.

Picked up my good today so my next four days off i intend to fit it plus fit a 12V power supply socket for Sat Nav

Hi Chad

It looks promising you may well be able to do this just had my neighbour pop round. He has given me a contact name/email address. So will send a message she is expecting a mail so looks promising. There is a couple of things in our favour mainly

1. There is no tattoo on a Sunday bonus

2. If it is after 6 then better as that is when it shuts so looking at your time plan if i have read it right. You are thnking of being in Edinburgh around 6:30. If not we could maybe go to Holyrood first then go up. After 6 i think you would have a better chance of it happening. Other details they might need or ask which may handy to have ready if we get the go ahead is the car registration numbers of the buggies :)

So i need to check a couple of things before i send an email firstly i am correct in thinking it would be two buggies maybe even a third one then mine. Plus what time would you be planning on being in Edinburgh. Will send an email to Emma tonight or tomorrow

Alan
Yeh i am back on shift today so will be sunday/monday when i will be able to spend some time fitting it

Judging by the time table I would like to be there before 4pm. Gives the car time to cool down a bit after coming from Dundee, before joining up again.

Dundee to the bridge is 1 hour from google maps, so call it hour and a half for the buggy as I'd be sitting at 55/60 not blitzing at 70+

As for joining the convoy there are not many places to pull in and wait. Before the bridge on the glasgow side, just at the roundabout junction there is a large area of grass that I have been thinking I might park up on. (well out the way of traffic) but have good views of those joining the bridge, so I'd know when to join up. The roundabout is called Higgins Neuk.

I thought that would be the best plan as I dont want to delay or side track the route by stopping to meet as I know they have a strict schedule to get along with. So as they'd drive by I'd start up and join along the back of them.

Weather wise BBC and accuweather are both optimistic with fair weather for the day, so I hope to meet you on the road!
