Hi just wondering I've been looking at a bug the guy says it's got vw convertible plus says same colour on V5 but engine numbers are different as its been replaced is this a problem.
Also the buggy as been sorn for over 10 years so would u just apply for the log book then just MOT it.
Or will I suffer the IVA check as it is a short wheel base? Am I best just giving it a miss and get one already on the road or getting a lwb for less problems ?

Engine number isn't an issue any more. I changed one on a beetle a few years back with no issue.
You should have the log book slip to send off from the original log book so being sorted shouldn't pose an issue. Also if there are any papers, documents and or photos that can show it's been a buggy for many years on the road there shouldn't be an issue there either.

Well just Done a dvla check on it says last MOT was 2007 so looking like it been in  pieces for  quite some time .  But that's nice to know shaggy cheers for the advice 👍🏼

For what it's worth....
My SWB fibrefab is listed on the V5 as VW convertible,  checking on the DVLA MOT site it has been classified as VW Convertable, VW buggy, & beach buggy..... With a gap in MOT records between 2005 & 2012....

As long as the V5 doesn't say ..... VW saloon or VW Beetle .... 

Nothing the matter with vw convertible, the word beetle which should never have been on the v5 may give problems in certain circumstances.

Convertible is good -

Chassis number is the important one to check

Change engine number AFTER V5 has been issued in your name, as always advisable to only change one thing at a time, else DVLA get a little confused

we have one, make invader beach buggy, body type saloon it is not a problem the make is correct and they never made a saloon version. the other is down as a make kingfisher, type saloon but it is a hatch back no mention of vw on either V5c

if it is down as a make vw beach buggy or beach buggy and not just vw you are fine, these things got entered onto the system in random ways by different people over 30+ years and they have since been transfered onto a computer data base where again mistakes may have been made.

our beetle is make vw,  model beetle 1300DL  body type saloon so no good as a donor for buggies unless a lwb with a body change then I guess they would just change the beetle 1300 and saloon parts
