Hi everyone,

I'm Andy from Chelmsford, Essex.  I was a beachbuggy enthusiast up until a good 10 years ago, when I then got a job in London, moved to central London and my poor buggy has been in storage ever since.

I used to be a member of the beachbuggy.org.uk MSN group from looking at my old emails, I assume that's long gone now or morphed into a different forum?

A new member of the family, and a house move means that sadly I am unlikely to get back into this great hobby any time soon, and will sadly have to part with my old friend. I remember very little about the beachbuggy (the shell is an old type and has a custom rear) and have no idea what it's worth, so I was hoping I could start a valuation thread with the view to preferably sell to a forum member, or if there's no demand at least I would know roughly what to expect if it went on ebay.

I obviously don't have much to contribute to the forum unfortunately, but I would happily part with the buggy for a very fair price in the knowledge it went to a forum enthusiast that would cherish it as much as I have.

Cheers,
Andy

Andy, glad you made it on here   ;-)up

The previous forum "disappeared" around 3 years ago now, but you will find pretty much all of your old mates back on here nowadays

Welcome Andy. Could you post some photos of your 'old friend'. See How to post photos by Andy Robinson in the Newbie area. Group knowledge on this site will surely recognise parts if not the whole buggy.

Look out for runs that you can cadge a lift on. I stop at Borehamservices for Elemental, Battles bridge and the Ace cafe run and would welcome a navigator now the dog is relegated to the back seat

From one Andy to another, welcome to the site!

Let's hope you don't have to sell the buggy just yet, plenty of members have managed to keep both! But in the meantime try and get some photos up, we all like photos!

Thank you guys for such a warm welcome!

From taking a look at the forum I definitely recognise a couple of the usernames!
I've thought long and hard about it, and I've talked myself out of selling it for so long.  But unfortunately my new house doesn't have a garage, and my mum is moving house (where it has been stored for quite some time) so I'm really out of options.
I can definitely see myself getting back into this when I'm a bit older, have more free time, less hair, and hopefully have a bit more cash than I do now :)

Bertie was in a good working condition, until I decided I would start to refurb him. Unfortunately I started taking him apart (including part of the engine), and then suddenly moved into London, so it's now classed as a bit of a project.
Here are some photos of him before he was taken apart:

Anyone recognise him?  I bought him from a chap in Manchester in about 2005, but he's been registered as a buggy from about 1980 according to the documentation.

I've taken a load of high-res photos of him in his current state, and all parts etc..  Would it be better if I started a new thread for this?

Thanks again,
Andy

Hard to tell what it started out as as it's been so highly modified but possibly a MkI Rat that's been chopped to make it more 'GP-like'?

Hi,

Apologies for the delay in replying, I never thought having a baby would take up so much time!

Thanks for the pic Manxdavid, I can definitely see some similarities.
I also thought from a side view it looked pretty similar to a G.T Mouldings Dunebuggy, although that might just be because the same type of sidepods were used:

and mine:

r19kyw: The V5 is quite sparse, it simply has:
Make: Volkwagen
Model: Nothing listed
Date of Reg: 16 04 1980 (DECL/D MANUF 1959)
Wheelplan: 2-AXLE-RIGID BODY
Historic Vehicle, 1600CC and lists correct colour.

I've added a load of photos to my picassa, so feel free to browse @ https://picasaweb.google.com/108479443140432777163/BeachBuggy?authuser=0&feat=directlink

I can do a more detailed listing, with parts etc. There's a rain cover, chrome wheels, large tyres etc. which aren't shown in the pics (also obviously ignore the pic of the GT Mouldings buggy there).

Cheers,
Andy

Hi Andy welcome to the forum. I would be interested in the buggy depending on price. Could you message me what you're looking for?
