Evening folks,
Who is the best and most current person to speak to about some a couple of V5 queries to avoid a  Pilgrim type situation.
Its better to regret something you have done than to regret something you haven't done so tell the wife how much you paid for things but leave off the VAT so your not lying.

Hi Hoggy,

You can give me a call tomorrow or I can pop round sometime over the weekend possibly and have a chat.

I'm about all day tomorrow so drop me your number in a PM and a some times to suit you and give you a buzz,
I would happily welcome you round but I'm working most of the weekend and we are suffering from a diet induced biscuit shortage and what kind of host would not provide some form of selection.

Cheers for the offer Chad but I've had to phone the DVLA due to the loud buzzing noise in my left ear going on about me worrying for nothing and possibly wasting money on yet another hobby etc.

My concerns where on the V5 the model was blank and only had Saloon in the body type but the nice bloke at the DVLA said don't worry it's a common thing with old cars details.

The other was that I needed to make sure that I could just bolt the frame body on to the unmolested 1971 chassis and not have to worry about losing the plates or the dreaded IVA and he said as long as the chassis/floor pan is left as original spec I would be ok  yay!  ;-)up
He did say if I do change the body I just need to tell them if there is a change of colour and when I get an engine just send them a copy of a receipt or headed letter from a garage to confirm the new engine number and if the engine size changes let them know but being tax exempt through historic status I still won't need to worry about losing it.

I know they where only silly little things really but I can't afford to waste any money on a dropped knacker if I could have avoided it with a simple question  8)

worrying is not a problem DVLA rules and mine fields are closely related and you need caution when dealing with them. However an unmodified pan make life easier but it may be worth sending the V5 off for an engine number change whilst it is still a beetle if you have the engine you intend to use as one step at a time seems easier with them.

Agree with Snoopy to treat DVLA with caution . . .

However, I do have an alarm bell starting to ring in my head here.

The guy at DVLA obviously knew you had a Historic vehicle, and understood your concerns about the changes you want to make, but what worries me is that he suggested the garage receipts for engine swap / confirmation of numbers etc

I thought this was dropped on older cars, and just about anything with a "Historic" tag would come under this one, so if he unawares of their own rules, then what other minefield are you about to step into?

Suggest to get everything in writing where you can from them

Agreed,  I changed the engine number and engine size on a 1971 buggy V5 about 3 months ago, I did not need to supply a garage receipt, I just filled in the relevant sections on the V5 and sent it off to the DVLA. I received the amended V5 back within a couple of weeks. No problem.
Have fun. Be lucky

Although you are right, you shouldn't need the letter from the garage for older cars (like ours) sadly not every one in the dvla are familiar with that rule and others have (incorrectly) returned not completed and asking for more documentation. My suggestion would be if you can, include a letter anyway. Am sure it's quite easy to "produce" one.

To be honest I would rather not send a letter as I wouldn't want to be the one that starts to set the precedence so when I get to that point I'll just send the form to see if it bounces and I'll update this thread as to what happens if I remember.

One thing I forgot to ask was is there a fee involved in changing the details, damn DVLA website is rubbish for things like that.

Golden Rule when dealing with Changes to the V5 though is to only change ONE THING AT A TIME    ;)

Do they they get confused and overheat if too many things change at once haha.

Awesome news Snoppy I'm so glad I don't have to pay them anymore for a while.
