Howdy folks,
I was about to fine tune the pistons and came across this one?????

Took off the dizzy cap to find number 1 piston, pulley is set at tdc, had a good look and the Tinware is marked number 3???

Which am I to belive to be the right one to start on??
For imagination purposes number 3 on the Tinware is the back left
Also when I move the pulley this piston doesn't move ???
Any thoughts
Rich  :-\

Tinware on back to front, swap over and No3 should be where it is  ??? If it doubt you can always  refer to the Shaun Ryder autobiography ( John Muir is better reading thou )   8)

Number 1 is far right you have it timed 180° out.
if your number 3 piston definitely does not move when you rotate your crank 180° then you got a big problem.
I'm in my buggy,
It's raining,
I really don't care.

Far right on the tinware is marked number 1, when piston is full extended its bdc, dizzy still points at piston 3 for number 1,
piston 3 does rotate when you go through the others to get to it, ( i meant when dizz was pointing at 3 and pulley was tdc then it didn't move a different piston was rotating)
weird thing is the broken pulley was a aftermarket with the degrees on and new one is exactly the same and i put the new one on same as last came off,, ive not touched the pistons or crank other than cleaning up the rockers and push rods, she fired up when it was bought getting her on and off the loader and putting in the garage so it had to be 180 deg out back then ?

If you are going by the marks on the pulley, TDC will be on number 1 and 3 cylinder's. It is just that one will be firing and one will be with the exhaust valve just about to close and the inlet valve just opening, which is called; with the valves rocking. So when one cylinders valve rocks, it's opposite one fires.

Sometimes when people are rebuilding an engine, they put the dizzy drive in 360 degrees out, which puts the HT leads out of position but this doesn't matter as they can be moved around on the dizzy cap. Hope this explains your problems

the only way to check firing stroke is r/h rocker cover off timing mark at TDC check no 1 rockers to see if they are both closed and have clearance if ok the rotor arm  should point to no1 the small slot on the dissy base lip. If not turn the crank another 360 degrees to TDC and recheck the rockers are free.
