Ok, here goes, my first techy post on the site.......

Steering Wheels................. What do you guys have fitted to your buggy?
My Fibrefab came equipped with a shirt button sized Mountney (100PCD type) which after fitting a new indicator stalk to the column was shall we say "useless" as there was no room behind the wheel for my fat fingers.
I have at the moment a bit of a Heath Robinson set up and am looking to swap it out for something....

Any suggestions peeps? 

I use a 12" Mountney on a VW column with Ford XR3i switchgear that has been waterproofed. Big wide wheels on the front, and because I run standard ride height, my steering feels really nice and not heavy.

I have a standard 69 beetle column with just the indicator stalk, the problem I have it that the stalk has a kink that means that it fouls against your fingers as it is too close to the back of the wheel. I was thinking dished wheel, something like a 13" Grant 838?

I have a 12" mountny on a standard 70 column... I trimmed the indicator stalk down so that my fingers cleared it.

you could change to a longer boss or an fit extension.

I have a deep dish wheel that came with my buggy

I have the same column and indicator setup and use a 13.5 inch grant wood rim wheel with 3.75 inch dish. It gives good clearances and is a comfortable size.

Budget wouldnt stretch to a wood rim but I am liking the look of the Grant wheels......

Been doing a bit of research and I reckon a set up like yours will do the job nicely..........

Would I be right in assuming that if the wheel has a 3 1/2" dish, with the adaptor / boss the wheel would be 4 1/2" from the top of the column housing ?

Mines a deep dish Grant with an extension unit behind it. Started with a flat Mountney but always switching indicators on as I steered, deep dish solved that but trapped my knee between wheel and gearstick, good now with dish and extension but I am fairly tall so you may not need the whole shebang

The black and chrome 13.5 inch grants come with a 3.5 dish. Can't remember how much the boss adds onto that and I can't go and check because I'm away on hols at moment.

I have a 10 inch Mountney with a Mountney Boss and standard shaft .... though the  very old type (sorry dont know the year).  My indicator has a slight mod on it and I can get my fingers past it no probs at all .... plus I have big fat tyres, 6ft 4ins tall and arms like a Chimp 

I love the small 10 inch and really dont find it an issue.  The odd time in a stationary lock to lock its been a bit hard work.  But because I am so tall I need all the space I can get and the deep dish / bigger ones just dont give me that.

The simple thing to do is shorten the stalk.
Smaller wheel / shorter stalk = back to Yin and Yang
