£200 collection required (still in car at the moment as I need to roll it around to get the body off.

Hi Ben I was thinking it may go in the beetle if I could get the interest up enough to do it but that failed and I have nowhere to store it so offered it up here.

you could have swung past monday on the way home :D
mmmm camping gear or a gearbox delivery, Swanage may be a missed event this year need a few weekends on things other than buggies, I could pull the shafts and perhaps courier it but it is a heavy item as you well know.
will do a quick bit of research.

I've got a HD clutch/Operating Shaft/Spring on my box mate. Will this take the bigger 18/20mm shaft and bits?

If yes I'll take it, pay you the cash and worry about picking it up latter if that's ok?

If it won't someone should stop buying cheap nasty chrome and buy this.  It won't win you prizes but it will make it go faster and save you fuel which means you can buy more tat.

Hi Flag, it has the standard 16mm shaft in but then rubber bushes and the thin alloy outer tube as of post 72 bugs the early ones had proper bronze bushes which where thicker walled but with a smaller shaft, I am guessing the heavy duty kit has thin bushes.

I was told 67 when I got it but it may have been fitted in a 67 beetle they broke, I swapped the nose cone for my 75 pan one and the clutch mechanism as the supported ones are stronger.
Heritage advertise post 73 for the support tube requirement but the cross shaft holes are the same size the release springs differ I think there are possibly 3 types.
I have never seen the conversion tube that fits into the bearing hole apart from in the adverts and it seems a strange idea so I fitted a standard vw one by drilling and tapping into the case on both conversions I have done.
gbox serial no is AC2709203 and the figures are no help with age as far as I know.

No joy snoops, the 16mm x 75mm arm would make the Kennedy clutch too heavy (it's already a little fierce).

I can't believe nobody else has had this though.

As you say the only way of making it lighter is to fit a longer operating arm but that puts the cable alignment out and causes wear against the conduit rear outlet I should guess. The shaft to bearing distance is fixed so cannot be improved. An hydraulic conversion would be better as the force required can be changed by cylinder diameter difference.
I thought all longshaft boxes had the same diameter holes for the cross shaft as the 4 I have used all swapped over. no worries I will e-bay it.
