Can anyone see any problems or provide any advise. I'm thinking about making a heater for my buggy. I have an extra sump on the engine with some oil line take off points. I could use these with a non return valve on one of them and run two oil lines to a heater unit under the dash. I thought it might work with an electric motor designed to circulate water in a kit car. Would it work with oil ?

I reckon you might have problems pumping oil with a water pump. How about fitting a thermostatically controlled oil cooler and let the oil pump do the pumping, fit an alternative bracket outside the cabin for in the summer.

Personally (my opinion only) I wouldnt use the oil as in the winter when you want the heat so does the engine.

have you considered one of the electric heaters?

Doubt it very much bud.

The oil is likely to be far more viscous (and possibly hotter?) than water would be and i dont think the motor would cope with it. Youd struggle with oil pressure over that ditance as well.........

I'd just fit it with standard Beetle heat exchangers and duct the hot air around the car, maybe through the roll bar tubing. Heated seats, maybe from an MX5 would work well too.

Some good ideas there guys for me to look into. I'm not sure what the sump is like inside but as it is underneath the original sump and as far as I know the oil pick up pipe is in the original position it might be possible to arrange a coil of coper tubing inside the lower sump with two outlets to the outside. Then I could circulated water through this using the electric water pump. It would be like the heat exchange principle in a domestic hot water tank.

Never considered heating before myself BUT keep it simple - I reckon (and from feedback of others) heated seats is the answer. 

I know of a few buggy and non-buggy owners who have used ones similar to what Dave (DND) suggested.

Heated motorbike gear is another option, personally I am going heated seats and cheap bike textiles which can double up as armour if I for some reason fall out

I suggested heated seats during the run last weekend and I was called all sorts of names...!!!!! I still want them though

I am sure someone was saying that the heating elements don't like moisture so they are no good in buggys?

My soultion to cold wet weather is leave it in garage and go in my daily works for me 

I like the heated seat kits. I'm having my seats trimmed so that will work nicely. I'm still thinking about a heater though. I remember  in my last buggy being so cold that I could not turn the engine off in a petrol station once. Couldn't feel my hands. 

Heated steering wheel is what you need.
