Project started out as as '70's style gold flake disco sidewinder buggy nicknamed 'Kylies pants'


Then changed to a GP/Manx


I have now found focus! The buggy is now based on a classic Meyers Manx shell. It will have a moulded fibreglass floor and tunnel integral to the tub similar to the very first monocoque Manx buggies from 1964/65.

The chassis is from a 1961 convertible. I seperated the tunnel from the bottom plate by drilling the spot welds. I then cut the 14.5" out then plug welded them back together. The resulting tunnel has no visible join and an integral brake line. (When I say I welded it up I mean panman welded it up for me!!

For the floor I am using a Berrien fibreglass floor as the base and forming my own mould for the tunnel section.

The shell is a classic Manx from the signature series. It will be fitted with a Manx opening bonnet. I don't have pics of the shell yet as I don't completely own it yet! It used to belong to Hoffer from the old site.

The style will be completely mid 60's. Wide 5 solids stock at the front and 8" banded at the rear. Tyres will be stock crossply at the front and Norseman Anderson's on the rear.

Stock running gear, steering wheel, vintage speed shifter, seats, switches, speedo, 1500sp motor with one of Mikes sidewinders

Knew you would ask that Dave. This one will be right hand drive as I will give it to the mrs. If it goes well I am going to do a full monocoque in lhd as a full replica.

I know you collect pics of monocoques, not sure if you've seen these ones with my old blue GP parked behind Bruce's old 'Quatro'.

It's a new buggy concept borrowing from the past (I hope! Not got a good track record with finishing things!)

Managed an hour in the cold today.

Got the plug primed in polyester paint.





Next stage is a good waxing, then attach floors, gelcoat and finally lay up the grp!

Wish I had more space!



Not sure the neighbours are appreciating the smell of polyester either!

I know what you mean, we layed up teh first Doon Mould and first bodyshell in my garage, which is barely 2.3m at its widest.

I would love a wider garage, would be so much easier.

And couldn't get the smell of resin out teh house for weeks - I was popular.

Won't be laying up in the garage. More than my life is worth!

Stole an hour today to finish the work on the mould. Attached the floor panels and tunnel pieces.






Next up is painting the gelcoat then laying up the glass. both smelly/messy jobs! Should be able to find some time Tuesday. Getting excited to see it!!
