The dip rely does it need two separate feeds to 56 and 30. Or if I fuse the light switch can I link 56 /30 together. I've jury rigged a test setup and it works ok just checking there is no reason not to do it

The reason there are two feeds, 56 and 30, is so you can flash the headlights when the lights are 'Off'...

The 30 connection with the larger cable is so that the supply this cable gives will handle the load of the headlights.

The 56 connection will be triggering the relay to do something depending on the lights switch position, ie side lights only.

I think the light switch when at 'sidelights only' position will not be supplying the 56 terminal, so the head lamps just flash,
but when the main lights are on, terminal 56 is fed with power and the relay is set so that any triggering happening will toggle the dip/main...

If your test rig works, then.... Maybe its all ok. Not sure really.

Give it a go, if all working as you want it, then that's ok

56 is a switched live, 30 is a battery live if you joined the 2 the lights would be on all the time from the battery live.
on our 70 beetle you need the ignition on for the headlamps to work but they will flash main beam with ignition off. the other buggies are wired the same way but with different relays and switches as it lengthens the battery life time if you leave the lights on as you get older.
