Weighing up buying a buggy! Joined to find out what the hell I'll be letting myself in for as somebody not mechanically minded!

You're letting yourself in for a lot of fun pleasurable driving and probably - depending where you live and if you want to meet any of us - meeting a right bunch of friendly owners always happy to share knowledge and parts and banter.

Oh and also shed loads of "issues" as old engines and lose bits and new poorly made parts all take turns to mid behave.

simple cars unless owners over complicate things, worth putting your area down as there may be some owners ner you for a look and a chat.

One of the best ways to find out what its all about is go to a local event and talk to other owners, and have a look at thier buggies

Look at the Cruises and events on here - can you get down to Ashbourne in July or across to Filey in August which both have usually 30+ buggys ?

Hello from Cornwall and from a fellow non mechanic.
I wanted a Buggy all my life and finally got one when I was in my 50's.
I can honestly say it is the best thing I have ever bought.

wherabouts  in lancashire  used to live in horwich then farnworth    had a buggy 35 years ago  only  got back into them 3 years ago  now have two  used to run north west buggy club    some of the members   still into buggys  who  still live in the    lancashire area

73 years old. Grandfather taught me to drive and passed my driving test when I was 17 way, way back in 1970
Just walked out of school...  First job earning peanuts and wanted a car for commuting etc. Only thing I could afford was a junker from the local scrap yard. A Beetle it was.
So rubbish wages, scrapped car, how do I get it roadworthy and running again with next to no spare cash. Only one way. Bought a Haynes manual, a few spanners, screwdrivers and a big hammer and simply had to either "get stuck in" or just look admiringly at the Beetle with all four wings attached by string. (I kid you not).
Never had a clue of what I had gotten into. Bitten by the Beetle bug and everything mechanical. If only I still had the money I have spent on cars, tools and repairs 
There is a moral to this story... If I could do this so can you      .
