Hello peeps,
I've got a number of issues with my buggy ATM, all if which are to one extent or another connected.
So first off,the alternator. Mine has a bit of play in the shaft, I'd say less than 1mm wiggle when held at the fan belt end (with the fan belt taken off.
Is this sufficient to prevents the alternator from charging GB the battery?

You can strip it and fit new bearings so the innards do not touch when spinning

How do you test a 2nd hand alternator to make sure it's not knackered before fitting??

Without circuit testing for diodes and alike if you wire it up then spin it with a drill, if charging it will slow down as the output load goes up
