Could anyone give me a rough estimate for how much it cost to get a chassis blasted?

And recommend where I could get it done in the Midlands?

Just blasted or blasted and painted/powdercoated/zinc coated

Blasting and etch primer shouldn't be more than £150

I had a quote of £100 via someone who knew the guy who was going to do it.

I needed to get it to them though.

Any particular reason you are going for the blasting route? No better way to amuse yourself for an afternoon than getting out the grinder, goggles and a wire knot brush...

Another thought ive considered for when i build my next one (yes.....) is i might look at getting the pan galvanised........NEver have to worry about rust again...

That's a fair point Ben (galvanising) am looking at powder coating

I can only imagine the chassis distortion would be from the heat. IIRC, glavanising is done hot??

I would have thought this would have come from using tinpot aftermarket paper thin panels? You'd have to go some to distort the spine.

THe only other problem with blasting Hazel is that its gonna be tough on the pan. It will find every weakness and then chew through it. Some balsters im sure as well use house bricks as media.......

Dont get me worng, i think you'd want to find any problem areas but ill deffo be galvanising the next pan i build up.

Rang round some locals and they quoted from £200 to £500 ended up getting the chassis and the fuel tank collected and returned blasted and epoxy primed for £200 and all done in 24hrs great result!!!!!!!

I got a quote from someone here in Cornwall for £150 but decided to go down the same route as Ben!!!

I think next time my neighbours will be offering to pay to get it blasted!!

I think there was one a couple of years back, on the hold forum who had a spine twist due to the galvanising process...

It does seem like the best option though, but a lil bit iffy... Suppose there's nothing wrong with good old fashioned paint  think powder-coating is a good option too!

Wouldn't powdercoat a chassis personally. If it chips is,can't be touched up and the moisture get right under it. I am using mastic121. Gets great reviews and can be repaired if required.

Never thought about it chipping mate might look at mastic 121 myself

No problem. They recommend giving the chassis a good clean before blasting as the grease and dirt can get imbedded in the steal.
