Afternoon all , slowly working through this project , and I've got a bit of a conundrum .... On one of my donor parts , a pair of good 1600 heads , it looks like someone has put an thread insert / saver into one the spark plug holes , and then proceeded to chew that up , so that the saver also came out

Now ....... I can easily get the whole tig welded up , for drilling and  re tapping
........ but .... Is this financially viable and b is there anyone who anyone can recommend to do this as whilst it's a pretty common thread , it's obviously got to be bang on ......

Check the head carefully for cracks between the valves before doing the plug insert. A look online will bring up plenty of kits but you need a solid insert not a helicoil type. Easy to do at home as kits come with taps to put the new insert in.

Cheers for the reply mate , my problem is the previous owner has already messed the it up , fitting a thread insert / saver as you described , and messed the re machined thread up , so now it is already over size and chewed up ....

I'll give them a good going over tomorrow and see what they are like , at first / initial  glance they look okay ... he says in a nervous school boy tone ...

Needs a thicker walled one they are available with a 17mm outer which means it is into new metal but a good used head is better if you can find one.
