Cheers Paul , I've now finally got it worked out , each wire labeled and sussed out .

I was struggling to get any sense out of the indicator stalk , turns out it was full of crud and the contacts covered in slime . So I removed that part of the unit and stripped it down . So many daft little springs , one of which made it across the floor . Rebuilt and refitted . Now works a dream .

Luckily it is an VW original so the wires at the hub are correct . The only thing that threw me was the grey wires for the side repeaters , but once I stripped off the wiper stalk it became obvious .

So now I can extend the wires on about 2 foot to where I intend to make the first main connections .



Snoopy , thanks for the link , that's been very handy , as I now have worked out the wiper stalk using that .

It has 4 wires , but 3 functions . Each function uses one wire Colour from the previous function .

And just as a side note , when I had the wiper stalk out of the main body assembly , it has 4 functions / locking into position but once assembled the main body restricts it to 3 . So guessing the posher models may of had a 4th function than would of been before the park function , maybe a electric washer jet / pump .


I'll type a legible translation incase it's of any use to anyone else .

Ha Ha.... It`s not just VW that has multiple springs under a plate etc. Have been there so many times with springs/ball bearings flying out as tho rocket powered. 

Sam your 4 th function will be the wipe once switched live that moves the arms from park position then the self park function continues the task.

Paul , It was the sprung loaded pin that registers the individual locations , shot accross the room , sliding on the engiineered floor and under a gap in the skirting , so shhhh, dont tell my partner i cut a small section of skirting out so i could get it with a pick ...the problem was i had to try and locate annd keep 4 small springs inplace as i got the moving arm back into place , and i have a hand like a bunch of pork sausages .

Snoop , i was just headscratching as to why the mech can carry out 4 functions but once back on the body , it limited it to 3 , so guessing it was a luxury extra .

I wontbe having a windscreen , so no need for the wiper motor , but iI intend to repurpose the wiper stalk functions for nefariously cool extras , hence my working out what they did , alongside i wont be using the original loom connector a) because i dont have one , but also i intend to extend the wires to get them into my new dash , so they the chances of water getting to it is less .

LEFT STALK

Brown with White                 = Dip Beam
Brown with Blue                   = Dip Beam

Brown                                = Horn

Black with White                  = Left Indicator/s
Black with Green                  = Right Indicator/s
Black with White and Green    = Indicator Common

Grey with Black                    = Left Repeater
Grey with Red                      = Right Repeater
Grey                                   = Repeater Common

WIPER STALK

Green                        = 53e
Black                         = 53
Black with Grey           = 53a
Black with Yellow         =53b

Brown                        = 31        at motor , not present at switch
