The dust has settled, and I'm now finishing all the 'small bits' like modifying the muffler to miss the cage, which it did before it's hiatus, but didn't when I put it back together.
Making the coil fit where I wanted it to, I'd forgotten it didn't until the day before the show, so the little bit of engine tin needed modifying to enable that. Also detailed the correct rocker covers for it, and installed the breather box.
I have decided to keep the 34's on it, so they'll need taking off and gaskets putting on, and I've made little spacers so the linkage clears the filters.

It's fought me all the way, but we made it to Stonor, despite a front brake trying to lock up!

It's been a reasonable amount of work though, I got it running and a rocker cover started leaking due to dodgie small gasket. Replaced that, ran it up, oil pump started leaking, which meant tearing of the front parts to get to it, as I had added an additional shroud to tidy it up. Replaced that, the other rocker cover started leaking, but not from the gasket, through the casting! I assume the bake was a little too tight and flexed the cover, causing it to crack just below one of the fins. So I replaced that and noticed a gearbox leak. Thought it was the nose cone gasket, as I had changed this for the split bus nose cone. Ordered the gasket, pulled it all out, to find it wasn't the gasket, but the three 'bungs' in the side of the box were gone! Apparently the older plastic ones rot away.  I spoke to Pete at Cog Box, he had a set of the layer ally ones, so I popped over to his, grabbed those and fitted them, and put it all back together.

There was also the charge light that wouldn't go out. I called on my mate Mark again, he tested everything, swapped out the regulator, but none of it made a difference. Last ditch attempt, we decided to re polarise it, by using the battery to spin it over, fixed!

Finally I could drive it, a little trip in to town and home, the brakes seemed to be pulling to the o/s, and by the time I got home, the n/s front drum was smoking!
I let it cool, backed of the shoes a tad(which were hardly touching) and went for another drive, all good👍 Ready for Stonor.

So off to Stonor, about a 60 mile round trip. All seemed good, although I'm not so sure about not having a windscreen anymore, obviously being young the first time around it didn't bother me, but seems like hard work now.  I noticed the carb linkage wasn't returning properly, as a consequence I could basically do 35 on 'tick over', not ideal.
As we got close to Henley, I had to jump on the brakes a bit, felt something through the brake pedal and herd a clonk.. but it all seemed ok. About a mile further on, I noticed the buggy wasn't freewheeling too well, so I pulled over into a pub car park, n/s brake hot again. I was thinking about getting recovered, but  After 5 minutes My mate Andy pulled in behind me. We decided let it cool down, and I'd handbrake to Stonor. So 30 years after it was last there, we arrived

Well done on battling through the slings and arrows of oil leaks and brake issues.

The more you use it the fewer these glitches and gripes will become although of course many come with the 'territory' of owning and driving a buggy...

after a long time standing and work you expect a few teething troubles as things start working.

Yes.... As I look back to 1974 thro to 1976 I wonder how I didn`t think about driving my buggy daily thro some really drastic winter weather.

Saw this in the flesh at Brooklands last night.
The attention to detail and finish on that motor tinware etc is very very nice, absolutely first class  ;-)up

I was going to do a little update with pics, but it's been a while and I can't figure out what daft icon to press, so no pics

Overall the buggy has behaved itself. A couple of embarrassing moments when I forget to turn the fuel tap back on, and I've wired the petrol gauge backwards-doh, but that's about it.
Looking at modifying the dash, moving the petrol gauge up
There, adding a high beam and indicator idiot lights, and loosing the Center consul as you can't see the petrol gauge, who needs a clock, and the stereo would be useless with no screen, not that I ever fitted speakers.
Maybe this winter if I get time in between the other projects.
If I figure out how to post pics again, I'll post a few from trips out this year, though I think
They are just about over for 23 now it's September.
