Rear light recommendations , what do you guys think , LED , original beetle , Elephants foot  "Hamburger style " good suppliers ? cheers Jon

Having tried several LED types over the years, I have to say that I am far from impressed and that many following me cannot see my own lights in anything but darkness.

LED lights are very very directional, so if you are going down that route, ensure that the beam is horizontal as any deviation makes them difficult to see

I went all led except for headlights and front sidelights, (combined unit).

Pro`s......  Led brightness is a quantum leap forward to the Beetle incadescent units.
                Very, very low current draw.
               A lot of variations out there now.
               Plug and play bulbs to fit standard Beetle etc light units.
               
Con`s.....   Indicators need either an electronic relay or the now common led & incadescent compatible relays. (Always check base
                 connector layout as the Beetle relay holder may differ from replacement relay). There is no need now to fit the large, hot
                running in line resistor to each lamp.
                Directional viewing...... Where possible mount lamp assembly vertically and pointing straight back. There are legal viewing
                angles but it`s unlikely that and mot tester would have an issue unless the lamp was mounted way out of alignment.

               Make sure the earth to each unit is a really good one. Combination lamp units share a common earth and most of us older
               guys have seen what poor earthing can do to to car lamps. (Led earth wires tend to have white sleeving).

              As Manx David says Landrover lamps meet all legal requirements. Believe it or not even Cobra`s etc have these lamps fitted
             for IVA inspection. They are the most common lamps used by the home build constructors.
