Unbelievable and they are supposed to be hot on reducing car crime stuff.
A buggy registered as a beetle saloon is pretty safe from getting picked on.

They have put the onus onto mot stations, they do the detective work as part of the test.
Vin number, colour, number plates and does the vehicle match the v5 description,

Well over a year has passed on this adventure,  and still waiting for a v5
Contacted dvla again and still no response.

Will try yet again, maybe emphasize it's been over a year, if it wasn't already tax exemption, it would be by the time this gets sorted

A year..... Not surprised at all.... it`s dvla.......    a law unto themselves.....wonder what qualifications you need to work there   

Recieved letter from dvla today.
In their wisdom they have decided to avoid the original identity and registration,
I will be receiving information on how it will have to be re registered on a Q plate
Wonder how involved that is going to be

A Q means you pay tax  so below 1500cc is cheaper than over but the buggy is then bullet proof for modifications and changes it will also be exempt if they clamp down on historic vehicle use in the future.

As long as they don't insist on IVA test before issuing the Q plate.

This is a buggy that was built and correctly registered in the 70s, should now be tax and mot exempt as a classic vehicle
The chassis number has been checked and is a genuine stamping , all the running gear, body and mechanicals are period and vehicle correct so probably original
Just because of some nefarious dealings in the past, how can that be ignored
Makes a bit of a joke of the whole correctly registered thing, why bother with it when they can ignore it

Seems they have little interest in stuff outside their office walls they could have given you an age related plate, if you want to keep the historic ask them why the original is still on the road when you have the chassis even though they may reply that a chassis can be replaced with another new one from the manufacturer when damaged and it is legal.

However they could turn around and say yours should have been scrapped if that happened,  sorry to say you are in a catch 22 situation.

The registration is now void, so no one has it, mine is the original and is not just a chassis it's a complete buggy,
In effect it is a barnfind that has had its identity used to ring another buggy

Bearing in mine it is a proven and well established vehicle, I would not be accepting their first and lets face it easy to fob you off reply of going down the Q route. I would be insisting that a case worker comes on board with immediate effect with a view to issuing you an age related plate.

If I can assist with any formal BBi stuff to back it up in any way, then please do not hesitate to ask

Thank you  I intend to fight this, not only for myself but the whole classic car world, so any assistance will be appreciated,

So they have voided the registration that means the other buggy with it is now off the road, I wonder if they notified the owner.
