Been looking for a solid front gearbox mount but they don't seem to exist for a '73- chassis.  The next sturdiest option seems to be urethane. As it doesn't twist like the red ring of death it should be OK, shouldn't it?

Would not even consider one of those, you have a post 72 three bolt fitting into the box with the metal dish over the rubber so look at filling the gap between the rubber and metal to reduce any possible movement.

The Red ones work fine in the rear gearbox cradel but I wouldn't fit one on the nose cone. I have loads of origanal 2 diaganal bolt ones in great condition and rears. I will have to have a look to see if I have a nose cone to match for you

Thanks Rob,  I've actually ordered a new standard front mount, and got a box cradle to hold it down. I'll try to get those on tomorrow and see how I go from there.

I had urethane mountings and would never use them again.
Gearbox mount holes elongated so the whole engine and box rocked about. Lots of whiplash on that journey.
Torsion bar bushes also deformed and all in all transmitted lots of noise and vibration into the car.
I would always use rubber.
Another Dave in Cornwall but not Cornish Dave.

Sadly, like all repo materials nowadays, the urethane is truly sub standard

.Back to rubber and fit a center bar under the front of the gearbox to stop the nose lifting, I ditched the red plastic crap blocks and put some good old hard rubber on instead. other sell them but JK is easy to search you also need longer studs to fit it.
