reading back through your post this all sounds really fishy.

Why did you buy a buggy that was registered as a VW Saloon on 1 chassis number then the tell DVLA you bought another chassis number as parts?

From my limited experience with DVLA they will pull both numbers and ask for inspections

I bought a buggy cheaply, to use either as a project or break for parts. It has a riveted on vin stuck on the side of the tunnel ( means nothing ).
In the correct position on the top of the tunnel under layers of grime and paint, I uncovered the original vin, 8 digits,
One chassis
One vin
Came with a v5 which matches a riveted on plate so Had no provenance to this vehicle
Applied to dvla for a v5 matching that original unmodified vin number.
Although to be pedantic it's a chassis number as the vin standard came in later

Further to the questions about the legitimacy and originally of the id stamped into my buggy.
The stamping is clear, all numbers no letters, the security marks are clearly visible, and according to someone who knows about such things, the font style and security marks are correct for that era.
Ps made an error earlier it's a 7 digit not 8 digit chassis number

One barrier that DVLA may put in your way is the shortened chassis. The chassis number is only on the rear half and they used to put shortened chassis on Q plates pre SVA because there was always a chance in their eyes thst the front half was from a different donor.

This chassis number was first registered as a beach buggy in 1972  which could fit the timeline 58/59 beetle converted and registered early 70s
Was registered in Liverpool so who knows what they might do

What does it matter where it was registered?

Doesn't matter in the slightest, but different offices may do things different ways

Actually, that can have a big impact on things as back in the day, many of the LVLA centres did their own thing and made up their own rules, which is why it became centralized with everyone following the same rule book.

They have been known to ask what the wheelbase is on receipt of the Built up vehicle report'form, and also prior to sending an SGS inspector out if they deem in necessary.

But if the V5 says BEACH BUGGY, then it could be forcibly argued that the vehicle has already been inspected and met all of the criteria to be awarded that name on the V5. Chassis length is only required for new builds and those trying to claim MOT exemption if incorrectly registered.

Fully agree with that and as I heard it was a mantaray it would have been a short as a web search shows the swb ones.

Sure but it is a government agency that we're talking about here, 'shoulds and aught's' count for nothing when it comes to government.

Where is the OP actually up to with this process anyway? Any actual developments that can be broadcast?
