Following the incident with my engine I stared to look in detail at the flexi fuel line\high ethanol content petrol issue....  (Although my engine issue was a failed fuel pump diaprhagm not fuel line). I use Gates fuel line which whislt appears to be as good as any I have come across it eventually gives in to breakdown as the ethaol changes the structure.

I had never come accross "submersible" flexible fuel  line before until talking to pro track day drivers as a specific product. Just assumed the twin cell fuel tank links and the standard fuel tank internal pumps had normal flexi where fitted.

Although the submersible grade is far from cheap not a lot is needed where most of the fuel line is cupro nickel, brass or carbon\stainless steel.

Just wondering if any of you track day boys have had any experience at all with this fuel line. Manufacturers state it is 100% proof against all current ethanol grade petrol fuels.  Whilst I don`t believe any combination of materials available to none NASA space programme folk like me is 100% proof it would be nice to have a product that I wouldn`t now be checking every month  ;D ;D

I wonder what sort of fuel lines the Marine industry use on boats?

Anything "automotive" seems to be problematic / same old crap - just wondering about other industries  :-\

I'm wondering if these issues are really down to ethanol, I've seen a lot of pictures of supposed ethanol derived failures when the cracking and perishing of the hose is most definitely on the outside but with no signs of leakage. They're probably made from the same rubber as the cracked-to-Hell Michelin tyres on my Peugeot.  :-\

Same rubber the Cooper tyres on the Kango were made from cracked and perished at 3 years old.

It does actually make you wonder if we are all falling into the same trap of blaming the fuel when it could actually be a change in the make up of the rubber itself?

Must say ice been wondering. I've two year old tyre on the runabout. Got an advisory on MOT re: cracking on tyre walls. Garage guy said it's the rubber tyre being attacked by UV rays  :-\

Wonder if tyre dressing helps by stopping UV?

I would say a definite NO! to that one.  DC's wheel has more tyre dressing than rubber and can clearly seen to be cracking

That tyre was older than Dave though.
And it did hit a razor sharp tent peg.

That was u fortunate but a blessing they could have failed at speed on the road they were bad. It concerns me on buggies with limited use how old folks tyres are, spotted wheels and tyres on evil bay a few months ago the tyres were last made in 1988 when production stopped but advertised as  6 mm tread with slight cracking.

. R10 Is a submersible fuel line but nut to be used out side of the tank.  Ethaol Is not killing lines or!! alloy!!. Water will if left in carbs ... RC cars are plastic and alloy and use 98%!! methanol that is way harder on rubber and alloy than ethaol is and is why RC use Silicone but like a lot of fuel lines like r10-30 it is Permeable as well but will hold up to ozone and why rubber fuel lines in side a car is a big no.. only need to look at Toluene used as paint stripper gunwash etc I would clean engines and it killed black rubber gloves in no time .. F1 used it In the turbo 70-80 cars you needed gas mask in the pits.  It is a rubber killer and why PTFE is the way to go cost more but lasts for years and used to make brake .oil. Fuel lines. ..Rubber is now not up to the job of the chemical mix of Petrol and is permeable👎 in days of lead fuel had less if at all toluene and ozone levels are getting higher and rubber is made on the cheap!   I used E85 and ..50% gunwash mix petrol .I will take the Ethaol👍  The only down side and why it is in fuel is it is cheap/was😁 and you use more so more money in big mans pocket.. Only
