Hi all, about to order some new rear hubs for my buggy.

The beetle is originally a 1962 and has swing axel rear suspension. All the hubs on Machine 7 are for 68 onwards as far as I can see. I think this is when IRS took over, so my question is, will these hubs fit? Is the spline the same diameter for them to fit onto the end of the driveshafts?

Thanks in advance, Chris.

Mines a '70-72. Still has swing axles. Suggest you ring them. Have you tried Just Kampers and VW Heritage.

62 was wide 5 bolt pattern, they all were just about up till 67. 68 on were 4 bolt.

Most Bugs were swing axle until the end, only autos, 1302 and 1303 models got irs.

Ok thanks, so unless im bothered about keeping the originality of the car (which im obviously not as its already beach buggied) would you reckon my splines will fit any beetle aftermarket hubs? Or did the hubs physically change shape during a certain year?

Sorry if im not making sense

I would call them but im in the middle of the North Sea  ;D

Pretty sure the drive splines are all the same. It's only the physical suspension method which is different.
Someone will confirm in a minute.

4 and 5 stud drums differ in width as there are 2 lengths of spline but they are all the same spline size

What did pattern do you have at the moment and what wheels do you want to end up fitting? Splines are the same but some machine work is needed to fit 4 bolt drums onto earlier short axles as the splines are shorter so you'd need 14mm machining off the snout. You'd want to fit wider, later backplates and shoes if you do it.

They're 5 x 130 at the moment which I've been told is Porsche pattern. I've ordered the same 5 x 130 rear hubs from Machine 7, it just makes me wonder that they're listed at 68 onwards, but my buggy is 62, whether they'll fit. Anyway I'll get them and see. If I keep them clean they can always go back. Thanks for the info.

Think you'll find they mean the splines, not the wheel pcd.

If you post a pic of your swing axle, outside end, we'll be able to tell what length splines you've got.

After the ones i got from Just Kampers i wouldn't touch M7 parts again. New drum cracked and went out of shape in about 4000 miles. JK Guttman quality is so much better.
