Hi All can anyone tell me if it's worth changing to an electronic ignition? Due to problems with starting. Sorry if i am vague because I realise it could be a few other issues. Cheers Dipsy Deb 👍

If every thing is set up right, starting shouldn't be an issue! So changing the dizzy will only show an improvement if the old dizzy was part of the problem. To complicate things, there are three different sorts of dizzy and depending on what carb or carbs you have determines which type of dizzy you need. So don't rush in and buy one without help as you might be buying the wrong type!

As Rob says your first step is an engine tune up and check. Valve clearances, check and gap the spark plugs, clean and reset points and timing.
then check the choke is working if you have a single solex carb. When up to running temp check the carb setting.  If it runs rough with problems the carb may need a strip and clean then resetting.

Once set up electronic ignition should be trouble free, mine you a good earth is paramount, I've found out by experience. As the boys say, a well tuned engine should start just as easily as one with electronic ignition, it just starts a bit better, if that makes sense.

Deb..... Take care when investigating ignition checks....  The coil gets very hot. Do not leave the ignition on with the engine stopped for more than a few minutes at a time otherwise the coil will cook itself.   ;-)up
