I wouldn't recommend polishing chrome,
its only a thin surface finish
just a thought, what about chrome spiral wrap ?
as seen on popular auction site = Item number: 130769445388
tape end so its inside headlight bowl, wrap it fairly tightly to the wiring,
& long enough down wiring so its passed point where it enters body,
and secure other end with tape again,
you could finish it off by putting a length of clear heat shrink over it which would protect from elements etc
and keep the wrap nice and tight to the cable

how's that?

or......
run wires inside a short length of brake line pipe,
(secured top and bottom with a cable tie around wires to stop brake line pipe from 'chaffing' wires)
polished copper looks good and for what it is you could polish it
and give it a few coats of clear lacquer to try and keep the shine
polished copper would also look retro

shall I stop now or should I keep the idea's rolling lol

coloured heat shrink 

ive used this to apply to wiring looms and clutch cables etc on a previous bike of mine,
looks pretty smart and a change from the more usual black looms / cables
hows this ?

another top tip when dealing with dressing wires and cables
is to apply over braiding
this comes in many forms from stainless woven braiding
to coloured plastic over braiding (yes many colours are available)

if your doing a loom it can be tricky as the over braid will not fit over multi plugs
it will expand, but not enough in many cases
easily fix for this is to cut the plug off apply braid and rejoin plug,
top tip - if doing this cut plug so it has 2" of wires sticking out to allow you to rejoin

each wire to the multi plug will have its own specific colour
this makes rejoining the plug to the loom easy
one wire at a time strip 5mm from each end being joined
before you solder the join apply a short length of heat shrink as this will insulate the join after soldering
if you forget to slip heat shrink on  - apply heat to unjoin soldered joint and resolder it again afer applying heat shrink
yes - I have done this myself & yes you do feel stupid when it happens lol

the over braid itself can be slid up the loom with multi plug cut off,
thicker diameter heat shrink can be slid over the braiding up to the start point
and shrunk to give a neat end finish,
again this can be used at the other end too
